Ghislaine Maxwell was once a wealthy socialite, and the daughter of a British publishing mogul. She now spends her entire life locked up in tiny cells after she is convicted on sex trafficking allegations.

Maxwell was 60 years old on Christmas Day. He was found guilty of five out of six charges. This is a devastating blow for Maxwell who had been a London society girl and later made it into New York’s most elite circles.

What happened to the daughter of Robert Maxwell, a disgraced newspaper tycoon, who was accustomed private jets, yachts, and beach houses?

She was in a long-lasting romantic and business partnership with Jeffrey Epstein. Jeffrey Epstein was a late pedophile. His apparent suicide in prison in 2019 made him a target for his partner in crime.

Despite the horrifying allegations against Maxwell, Maxwell maintained that she was innocent of any claims that Epstein had made against her. She also claimed that Maxwell had sexually assaulted them. Maxwell was only 14.

Maxwell grew up in a 51-room English country mansion called Headington Hill Hall, There were lavish parties where business leaders, politicians and journalists attended.

She spent the first half of her life with her father, a rags-to-riches billionaire who looted his companies’ pension funds before dying a mysterious death when he fell off his superyacht – named The Lady Ghislaine.

Ghislaine was Robert Maxwell’s youngest children, and she was born on Christmas Day 1961.

Michael, Michael’s brother, was brain-damaged in a car accident at 15 years old. He lived another seven year.

Elisabeth Maxwell was her mother. She wrote in her memoir, that Robert and she were so concerned about their son’s injuries that Robert neglected their daughter. Ghislaine, who was 3 years old, stood up in front her mother to say, ‘Mummy! I exist!’

Elisabeth Maxwell stated that “I was devastated” in her book, “A Mind of My Own: My Lives with Robert Maxwell”. From that point on we made great efforts with her and fussed so much over her that she eventually became spoilt, which is what I can say about only one child of mine.

Robert Maxwell purchased the German rights to scientific journals. This was the start of an empire publishing that also included the Daily Mirror and Macmillan.

His nine children were his first. He was twice elected to the British parliament.

Ghislaine was a history student at Oxford University in the 1980s. She began to make connections with Prince Andrew who later invited her and Epstein, along with Epstein, to Windsor Castle, Sandringham and Sandringham.

She graduated from college and went to work with her father. She was 29 when her father bought The Daily News and made Rupert Murdoch, a New York Post owner, his U.S. ambassador.

Her father, who was on his yacht at the time of her death, fell from it and later died in Canary Islands.

Later, it was revealed that he diverted millions from the pension funds of his companies to support his empire.

Ghislaine, shortly after the death of her father, was photographed sitting beside Epstein at a Plaza Hotel memorial.

Ghislaine studied history at the University of Oxford in the early 1980s where she began building connections of her own, including Prince Andrew, who would later invite her and Epstein to Windsor Castle and Sandringham, Queen Elizabeth's country estate

John Sweney (a U.K. journalist who created the podcast Hunting Ghislaine’) told the Associated Press that he believed the Monster her Father died left the creature she had found a second one.

Sweeney stated that Robert Maxwell had stolen hundreds of millions from those who depended on his kind words; Jeffrey Epstein was a darker figure and a more dangerous human being.

Ian Maxwell stated that his sister’s friendship with Epstein began after her family told her she should stay in America because of the Maxwell’s name. He said that she was forced to forge new friendships and make her own decisions in New York, amid family’s financial and reputational woes.

Epstein was one of them. He is a former teacher, who made his fortune through connections like that of Victoria’s Secret’s parent company.

‘My father was a powerful man — you know, an alpha male, really. Ian Maxwell stated that when one has that experience, everyone, including the siblings, must deal with it. Ghislaine wasn’t the only exception. However, it is clear that you could then state, “Well, he dies and she goes on to the next richest man.” This is a lie.

Ghislaine Maxwell, who was sworn to testify in a civil case earlier, acknowledged that she and Epstein had been in a relationship, but later claimed she became Epstein’s employee. She was responsible for hiring employees for six of his homes.

“I employed assistants, chefs, designers, cleaners and pool-people pilots. Maxwell admitted that she had employed all kinds of people in April 2016, during a deposition. Jeffrey needed adult massage therapists. This was only a small portion of the job I had. To my knowledge, all who came to Jeffrey’s house were adult professionals.

Ian Maxwell said his sister's relationship with Epstein developed after the family advised her to remain in the U.S. because the Maxwell name was 'in the dirt' at home

Ian Maxwell claimed that Epstein became close to his sister after her family encouraged her to stay in the U.S., as the Maxwell name is ‘inthe dirt’ back home.

But in 2005, Epstein was arrested in Palm Beach, Florida, and accused of hiring multiple underage girls — many students at a local high school — to perform sex acts. The charge of procuring under-18s for prostitution was pleaded guilty by Epstein, who spent 13 months in prison.

After many years of civil litigation Epstein, Maxwell and other women were accused of sexual abuse. New York Prosecutors revived this case and in 2019 Epstein was accused of sex trafficking. However, Epstein committed suicide before he could be tried.

Based on allegations from four women, Maxwell was indicted for sexual abuse. One of the women was 14 at that time. According to prosecutors, Maxwell was sometimes involved in sexual encounters. He also paid at most one accuser.

Virginia Giuffre has filed a civil suit against Prince Andrew of Britain but is not part of the criminal case. She described Maxwell, as a “Mary Poppins” figure that made teenage girls feel at ease as they were lured into Epstein’s web.

Giuffre says she was 17 when Andrew took her to London to have sex. Her lawsuit claims that Andrew also had encounters at Epstein’s Manhattan home and U.S Virgin Islands homes. Andrew refutes the allegation.

Maxwell was just protecting herself from the press, her lawyers said in court papers — a notion U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan rejected.

Nathan denied Maxwell bail numerous times because he considered the possibility of Maxwell running away too risky. Maxwell is now in a cell with no toilet or concrete bed at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center. Ian Maxwell claimed that Maxwell was keeping his sister away from a fair trial by putting her in prison.

Ghislaine Maxille has been quiet about Epstein’s allegations for nearly 20 years. However, in 2016, she stated that she was informed about Epstein’s allegations ‘like everyone else’ and ‘like the rest of the people’ when they were announced in the papers.

She stated that Epstein was never given massages by any under-age person and that Epstein had never demanded sex from anybody.

‘Never,’ she declared.
