Woolworths shared this recipe using the limited-edition Cadbury Caramilk hot crosses buns, which were released two days ago. 

It takes just 20 minutes to prepare this simple recipe that transforms the store’s hot cross buns and makes delicious churros. 

In this video that was posted on Instagram, Woolworths’ chef begins by cutting the Caramilk Hot Cross Buns into 2 cm wide strips. Next, she places them onto a baking sheet and coats them in melted butter.

Starts by cutting up Caramilk hot cross buns into two centimetre wide strips, place them on a baking tray and brushe them with melted butter

Make the sauce by combining 180 grams of Caramilk Chocolate with thickened Cream. Microwave them for 1 minute. Mix halfway. 

To make the churros, combine the strips of buns in a bowl.

To make the dipping sauce, melt Caramilk chocolate in a microwave and stir for 1 minute. Then coat buns with a mixture of caster sugar, cinnamon, and the rest of the ingredients.

Ingredients

4x Cadbury Caramilk hot crosses buns

50g of melted butter

1/3 cup thickened butter 

 180g Cadbury Caramilk chocolate

1/4 cup of caster sugar

Ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon 

Method

1. Pre-heat oven to 200°F/180° fan-forced. Hot cross buns cut into strips 2cm wide

2. Spread on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Butter all sides. Bake at 350°F for about 15 minutes.

3. In the meantime, heat cream and chocolate in an oven-safe bowl. Stir with a spoon halfway through. Transfer into a small bowl.

4. Mix sugar with cinnamon in a small shallow dish. Make hot cross buns by coating them in sugar. Then, arrange the strips on a plate. Use Caramilk sauce.

Serve on a platter or board and top with the Caramilk Sauce.

To serve, arrange on a plate or board with a small bowl of the Caramilk sauce and enjoy.

New buttery Brioche Hot Cross buns will be available with Cadbury Milk Chocolate chips.  

The traditional selection of hot cross buns will be back in stock including fruitless, fruit, chocolate and mini-sized as well as the return of the apple and cinnamon indulgent buns made with 100 per cent Australian sourced pink lady apples. 

The gluten free hot cross bread range is back and available for customers who are gluten intolerant. 

This announcement was made just one day after Coles released their limited-edition Vegemite cheese hot cross bun, which they launched on Boxing Day four months prior to the Easter long weekend.

Coles and Bega Cheese teamed up to make a bun with Vegemite, parmesan, and a delicious cheesy topping. 

For $3.50, four Vegemite or cheese buns will come in a package. They’ll be available to Coles customers who already have a variety of Coles hot cross buns, including sticky date, butterscotch and apple cinnamon.

Coles launched their new limited-edition Vegemite and cheese hot cross bun that was release on Boxing Day more than four months before the Easter long weekend

Andy Mossop, Coles’ General Manager for Bakery, Deli and Seafood, said that he believes customers will enjoy the Vegemite hot cross buns as much as any other products in the Coles range. 

Coles believes it is important that customers have fun with flavors and they always try to offer something new to them. But, ultimately, the product must taste good.

“Our teams put in much time to fine-tune the recipe. This ensures that Vegemite’s signature savouriness is evident and customers love it. 

Aldi will have hot cross buns on January 12, and Baker’s Delight next month.
