Hwang Donghyuk, the creator of Squid Game is adding his movies to Netflix.
After the success of South Korean survival, the streaming giant will host some of Hwang’s earlier work.
‘Before bringing the visually astounding and socially relevant Squid Game to life, Hwang Dong-hyuk directed several acclaimed South Korean feature films — and now, three of those movies are available on Netflix in The US,’ Netflix tweeted on Wednesday.

Silence, released in 2011, is one of these. The storyline goes like this: A caring teacher attempts to expose a number of faculty members who are abusing students at an institution for the deaf.
The second movie was 2014’s Miss Granny. It had a description that said: “After learning she’s being sent into a retirement home, an old widow wanders into the photo studio where she emerges her 20-year-old self.
The streamer says that the 2017 release of The Fortress is the third and final offering.
This is a development that follows the TV show, which stars Lee Jung-jae and Park Hae-soo. The show, which critiques capitalism, has generated $891 million in impact value’ to Netflix. This translates into over 4.4 million new subscribers.

Solid lineup: The service hosts Silenced and Miss Granny, who were released in 2011 and 2017 respectively.
The showrunner, 50 years old, previously stated that Squid Game hasn’t made him rich despite its incredible success.
He said to The Guardian that he was not so wealthy. But I have enough. I have enough food to eat. I’m not being paid a bonus by Netflix. Netflix paid me according the original contract.
Hwang also said that the show is based in part on his own personal experiences.
He explained that he was financially strapped after his mother retired from the company her mother worked for. There was a film project I was working on, but we didn’t get financing. I was unable to work for almost a year.

The filmmaker stated that his family was then placed in dire financial straits due to the project.
‘We had to take out loans – my mother, myself and my grandmother,’ he recalled.
The director then spoke about Squid Game’s exhausting production process, which lasted for most of last year.
It was emotionally, mentally, and physically draining. He stated that he had new ideas and was constantly revising the episodes while filming so the work was more.

Dong-hyuk also discussed inspirations for the show and talked about reading comic books featuring characters who were forced to live in difficult situations in order to gain financial success.
He said that he was’related to people in them, who were desperate money and success. This was a low moment in my life. It was a low point in my life.
The filmmaker was involved in lobbying Netflix to release three features at the same time as the interview was published.
