Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ £48million Gulfstream landed in Scotland last night as part of a 400-strong parade of private jets – as an extraordinary traffic jam forced empty planes to fly 30 miles to find space to park.
COP26 climate conference will feature green activists urging others to reduce air travel and eat less meat. However, billionaires can fly in their own planes on routes served by commercial airlines.
While the super-rich were being whisked away in waiting limousines, hundreds more delegates were left unable reach Glasgow after severe storms ravaged rail links. Some had to sleep on the floors of Euston station in London.
According to conservative estimates, the fleet jets arriving at COP26 will emit 13,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide total, which is equivalent to the amount consumed annually by more than 1,600 Britons.
Boris Johnson, who urged leaders to back their words with action and warned the globe that it was ‘one minute to noon’, said that some people found their own ways to meet the challenge. According MailOnline’s analysis, Prince Albert of Monaco was among those who chose to fly privately.
Bank of America, which boasts in PR documents of its ‘commitment towards sustainability’, was the registered owner of two private planes that arrived in Scotland. They are far more polluting than commercial planes, cars or trains, with the typical one belching out two tonnes of carbon dioxide every hour.
Mr Bezos – who regularly lectures the world on climate change – arrived in Glasgow fresh from celebrating Microsoft founder Bill Gates’ 66th birthday on a £2million-a-week superyacht off the coast of Turkey in an event that generated fresh claims of hypocrisy. According to reports, he reached the boat via helicopter.

To discuss climate change, Mr. Bezos sat down with Prince Charles this week. He tweeted: ‘The Prince Of Wales has been involved fighting climate change and protecting the beauty of our world far longer that most. We had a chance to discuss these important issues on the eve of #COP26 — looking for solutions to heal our world, and how the @BezosEarthFund can help’
Other private jets also flew into Scotland from London, Rome, London, and Brussels, all of which are served by regular commercial flights. It was difficult to determine who was aboard because most of the planes were rented from rental companies.
Due to a lack of parking, some jets dropped off VIPs at Glasgow Airport. Some also landed at Edinburgh, possibly before they had traveled by land.
Boris Johnson flew in from Rome on his Union flag-embossed Airbus A321, but was stuck circling Glasgow for more than 20 minutes because of the number of jets arriving.
He was also with the President of South Korea, who flew in from Rome to attend the G20 conference.
Yesterday, MailOnline watched from beside the runway as plane after plane carrying leaders, dignitaries, security personnel landed at Glasgow before being ferried away by lines of SUV’s and private limousines.

Supporters greet President Buhari of Nigeria as he gets off the Nigerian Air Force plane at Glasgow ahead of COP26
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, nicknamed BBC2012, was specially ordered to fly the Premier and her entourage from Canada to Scotland for the global gathering.
The plane consumes approximately 5400 litres of fuel per hour, meaning that it required more than 64,000 litres to land at Glasgow Airport during its near-12 hour flight.
Numerous supporters waited for her, waving the flag of their country and unfurling banners in welcoming her.
Soon after, she was followed by Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, the President of Mauritania. His delegation of 10 people flew from Nouakchott to take a Boeing 737 Max 8 Max 8 and be given the MRT001 designation.
Egypt President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi was on another Boeing when he landed and was surrounded as he was driven through the rain by security guards.

President Joe Biden will contribute an estimated 2.2million pounds to carbon emissions in order to reach the summit.
The president’s enormous carbon footprint is made up of 2.16million pounds of carbon dioxide, generated by four large planes on his trip to Italy and Scotland. Biden’s cars will emit the rest.
His fleet consists of the modified Boeing 747 that he uses to travel, Air Force One (when the president is aboard), an identical decoy, two large C-17 Globemasters to transport his battalion, cars and helicopters.
MailOnline was told by a source at an airport that it doesn’t make sense for all the extra planes to land in Scotland. They are only adding to the problem of flying all these planes in when there is no easy way to stay home and have a chat.
“We all know about Zoom calls and how they can reduce travel. I don’t get why these planes are required to fly in these leaders and their staff.
“They could have just as easily held video conferences inviting everyone, politicians and the general public to join in. They are displaying a very negative image of themselves when planes land.
But today, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss insisted it was not possible to hold such a major conference over a video call.
She said that while Zoom calls are useful for some things, they are not as effective for others. However, if you want to really get into crunch negotiations and look someone in the eye and have a conversation face-to-face, you will need to meet in person.
“World leaders will have to make tough decisions and be willing to commit to things that they didn’t want to do when they arrived at the conference. That’s why it’s so important to have people face-to-face to allow these negotiations to occur.
Matt Finch of the Transport and Environment campaign group told the Sunday Record that an average private jet (and we aren’t talking Air Force One) emits two tonnes of CO2 per hour of flight.
It cannot be overemphasized how harmful private jets are to the environment. They are the worst way to travel by miles. Our research found that most journeys can be easily completed by scheduled flights.
MailOnline has reached out to Bank of America in order to obtain comment.

This is a bunch of hot air! Joe Biden is criticized for his 10,000-mile return trip that will generate 2.2 MILLION lbs of carbon to attend CLIMATE CHANGE summit. This was after President Obama was taken in a gas-guzzling 85 car motorcade in Rome.

During President Joe Biden’s trip to Europe to discuss the dangers of climate changes, an estimated 2.2million pounds of carbon will be generated.
Each jet emits an average of 54 pounds of carbon per flight. If they flew the same distance, just under 10,000 miles, an average American would produce 0.365 pounds of carbon.
Biden’s Cadillac “Beast”, a 20,000-pound armored limousine, was surrounded with dozens of slow-moving cars as he pulled into Vatican courtyard for meeting with Pope Francis. It produces an estimated 8.75 pounds per mile, which is 10 times more than the average car. Two Beasts, the official vehicle and a decoy, are part of his entourage.
Due to Italian COVID-19 rules which allow only three non-cohabiting individuals (including the driver) per vehicle for 85 cars, the motorcade was 85-cars in length. It was also home to the Beast, a fleet of gas-guzzling Chevrolet Suburban SUVs and famously thirsty Alfa Romeo cars, driven by Italian police. It would have produced around 73.5 pounds of carbon per mile.
The 4.34 mile trip from Villa Taverna, Italy, to Vatican City took 4.34 miles. This means that the total carbon emissions of the Beast and its entourage was 373 lbs for the short visit to Pope Francis. Ironically, the Pope and leader of the Catholic Church spoke about climate change. While Biden has been criticized over his largesse via social media, the White House insists there are no other options to protect the president from any potential danger while he travels.

For his meeting at the Vatican with Pope Francis, President Joe Biden used a huge 85-car motorcade through Rome on Friday.

The motorcade was focused around The Beast, the president’s armored limousine that can get up to 8 MPG, but also included gas-guzzling Chevy Suburban SUVs as well as Alfa Romeo police cars.

Biden arrived in Rome with his wife Jill Biden on Thursday aboard Air Force One. The jet generated an estimated 54,000 lbs of carbon during the 10,000-milelong weekend trip.

Biden arrived in Rome on Thursday aboard Air Force One. His team arrived in Scotland on Friday. Separate military aircraft were used to transport The Beast and the president’s Marine One helicopter.
The Beast and Air Force One have long been criticized by some Americans of not being ‘green enough,’ with the later costing more than $200,000 an hour to operate, Business Insider reported.
The Air Force One jets, which went into service in 1990, are due to be replaced by two greener new replacements in 2024, but they’ll still represent an extremely environmentally-unfriendly means of travel.
The Beast is approximately 20,000 lbs in weight and has a 5-litre diesel engine which gets around 8 mpg.

During his trip to Europe, the president made use Marine One helicopter

A Boeing C-17A Globemaster III was based at Stewart Air National Guard Base, Orange County, New York. This week, number 60005 was at Glasgow Airport. The President will call the helicopter Marine One.
Many pointed out the hypocrisy of Biden’s gas-guzzling entourage while he was on a trip that was primarily intended for a climate chance conference.
“Climate change and worries while jetting around the globe. You are a carbon footprint! Hypocrite,” wrote Yellowstoneave, a Twitter user.
Another Twitter user with name Snowwhite wrote, ‘Joe Biden arrives at the Vatican City on Airforce One followed by gas guzzling Chevrolets & outriders. What climate change emergency is this?
A Twitter user using the handle Hil..n called Biden a hypocrite.
“Jump on your helicopter, then onto your jumbo jet and lecture me about climate change.”

Many were quick critics of the president’s use a motorcade and Air Force One to get ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference.
Biden fled his declining approval ratings at home, partisan infighting about his $1.75trillion travel bill to Rome, where he is due to meet leaders from the G20 group wealthy nations for a summit of two days.
This is the first G20 summit held face-to–face since COVID. Biden will use it to repair his international reputation for his chaotic withdrawal form Afghanistan that frustrated his allies, and drew unfavorable parallels with his predecessor Donald Trump.
It also happens just two days before the start of COP26 climate summit, which will be held in Glasgow and hosted by Boris Johnson, British Prime Minister.
