An influential social media user has apologized after racist tweets she posted 10 years back resurfaced. 

Elle Darby was 26 years old when she wrote a series of shameful messages as a teenager. These included racial slurs, insults, and disparaging several ethnic groups. 

Ms Darby is a mother-of-one and has 770,000 Instagram fans. She called foreigners “meatheads” who speak in grunts and claimed she hates Indians and Polish people on an older Twitter account. This has since been deleted. 

Ms Darby uploaded family videos and lifestyle videos to YouTube. She has since apologized and stated that she is ashamed of the posts and wants to take responsibility. 

In one of the resurfaced tweets, originally posted in 2011, she wrote: ‘Why do foreign people follow me? I don’t speak your grunts, meatheads.’

She also posted: ‘I really miss my laptop. I wish the effin charger in Hong Kong (HK) would speed up. Come on ch***s, you’re upsetting me.’

Ms Darby added: “This bus stinks of Indians. It’s sweaty.”

She had also said that she prefers her ‘pretty four labrador retrievers to my ugly, spiteful, mongrel cat. That b***h can go back to the RSPCA.’

Now, the couple has apologized and wrote just before new year.

“We’re ashamed to say that we didn’t like the things we discovered.”

“The language in some of our tweets, especially over the past decade, was shocking and devastating for us both.

“We believe that everyone has a responsibility to their own errors and that it is our responsibility to take full responsibility, even for the negative ones.

These comments don’t reflect our adult selves, nor the person we are at that time, and they do not represent what we believe in.

“We’re beyond mad at ourselves, and we are ashamed of our behavior to those who have supported us for so many years.

“We cannot but wish for your forgiveness.”
