A mother of an influencer is getting a lot of backlash after posting a video in which she danced next to her baby who has a serious lung infection.

Whitney Leavitt from Georgia caused a stir after showing off her TikTok moves while her son Liam lay next to her.

Whitney welcomed Liam on December 5th, and Connor delivered Liam two weeks later. The newborn, who they call Lee, was rushed to the hospital with low oxygen.

He then tested positive for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and was diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia one day later.

However, his mother, who posts video of herself dancing to TikTok on YouTube and has over 475,000 followers, did not let her worry stop her from getting up.

Another said, “It is a rare person who can resort to TikTok dancing in moments like these.” Poor baby.

“This behavior is common in pediatrics,” a nursing assistant said. “It is very sad,” another person replied.

‘Many times while we are starting IV’s, drawing labs, and such, parents are on their phones recording all the trauma to their little ones for social media instead of comforting their sweet babes. It’s so frustrating.

Many people were quick to hit out on the TikToker, and said they found the video to be in poor taste - considering the baby's illness

Whitney responded to the harsh rebuke in another video. She claimed that she did not do the dance because she wanted to remain ‘positive’.

  • RSV is contagious and very prevalent virus which causes respiratory tract infections. 
  • You can spread the virus easily by breathing in the air. RSV is also transmitted to others through direct contact, such as when someone coughs or sneezes close to you. Direct contact with the virus, like shaking hands, can also spread it to other people. 
  • Congested, runny or stuffy nose, dry coughs, low-grade fevers, sore throats, sneezing and headaches, rapid, shallow, quick breathing, unusual tiredness and irritability, difficulty breathing and other symptoms may be present. 
  • It can make infants more sick, especially in younger children.

‘It’s honestly so overwhelming. It’s hard to not feel helpless in times like this,’ she wrote. ‘But I’m grateful for you guys, friends and family for supporting Conner and I.’

She added in another post: ‘I’m just so angry. … I dislike all these wires, even while he is eating.

‘I’m mad that I don’t know how much longer we have to be in this 140-square-foot room.

‘With all of these hateful feelings I’m still so grateful. I’m grateful we know now what’s going on and have antibiotics to treat him. You’re a strong little Lee. We love you.’

MayoClinic says that the virus is so widespread, most infected children are two years old.
