Instagram model, 21, ‘helps her mum, 38, escape prison in Colombia by distracting a security guard as she climbed out of a window using a rope’

After distracting the security guard, an Instagram model allegedly broke her mother’s freedom from jail with a hidden rope & getaway bike.

According to the Sun, prosecutors learned that Aida Merlano, 21, helped a former politician escape from Bogota prison. She did this by climbing out of a third story window and using a rope.

The escape happened in October 2019 when Rebolledo was a senator but she was convicted  after her election win as evidence of weapons, voter fraud and corruption was uncovered by authorities. 

Rebolledo was sentenced within six months of her election victory to 15 years imprisonment, but she was released from prison just two weeks later.

Her daughter was accused of the elaborate escape mission, but she was released on bail and has posted regular snaps to her 2.5m followers.

Rebolledo was at the dentist when Rebolledo got his prison break opportunity.

She was accompanied to the dentist’s office by a guard and driver from prison.  

Rebolledo was later heard at the trial and left alone in the examination rooms.

The woman then jumps on a bike that is allegedly being driven by a man pretending to be a delivery driver and flees the scene.

And when her mother fled, her daughter took advantage of the situation. 

Merlano, naked and in handcuffs, was featured on the cover a magazine a month after his daring mission.

In Venezuela, authorities eventually caught Rebelledo on January 2020. 

Authorities suspected that the congresswoman fugitive was a complicit in the prison break. They formally charged them the month after.

The duo protested their innocence during the trial, but they will spend years behind bars if found guilty.   

Merlano stated in a social media video that despite knowing that he could go to prison for 21 years, he is happy because he believes happiness is a decision one makes every day.

“Be happy today because tomorrow is unknown.”
