It contained £1,280 cash that the owners had given her to help run the premises while they were away.

Keys, bank cards and a pair of Vivienne Westwood earrings were also stolen, making the total value of the haul £2,280.

Watson attempted to barricade himself in his room, but the men were later detained.

Julia Baggs, mitigating said that Watson was able to get rid of drugs during his last prison sentence.

Miss Baggs stated that ‘he has been dependent upon drugs for the vast majority his adult life.

Soon after his release from prison, he was on the streets.

Miss Baggs stated, “He quickly fell off the wagon and made some steps backwards.”

“This was clearly an impulsive act. He is looking for work in the community.

Awty’s representative, Cathy Kioko Giligan, stated that the offence was opportunistic.

She said that there was no excuse to the defendant’s behavior. He was under the influence of drugs at that time.

“He has a history of drug addiction.

Awty would not be released from prison before May 2022.

Megan Rhys, a recording artist, told the pair that they had both made appalling records.

He said that if they didn’t change their behavior, they would get longer and longer sentences and spend most of their lives in prison.

Recorder Rhys said, “This offence is so serious, that only a sentence of custodial imprisonment can be justified.”

Watson and Awty were each sentenced to 10 month imprisonment.

After the hearing, House of Panini staff received information that the burglars were in prison but declined to comment.
