Today, a jealous boyfriend was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his partner’s unborn child because he didn’t like the fact that it was fathered and raised by another man.
Asa Davison from Gillingham in Dorset attacked Isabelle Irish, a victim, while she was still 29 weeks pregnant, to kill the baby.
Miss Irish was punched and kicked in the stomach by Miss Irish at 35 years old. She then followed her down the street.
The homeowner called police and found her hiding in the back yard of the house.
A scan revealed that Miss Irish had no heartbeat. The baby had survived its initial 20-week scan and was in perfect health.
Following a Bournemouth Crown Court hearing, Davison was convicted of the less-known crime of child destruction in accordance with the Infant Life Preservation Act (1929).
Davison was called ‘highly Dangerous’ by a judge today as she sentenced him to life imprisonment with a maximum of 12 years in prison before parole can be granted.
Asa Davison attacked Isabelle Irish, who was still 29 weeks pregnant, in an attempt to murder her unborn child. It was another man’s baby.
A scan revealed that Miss Irish had no heartbeat. Her dead baby was healthy and she had to give birth.
Mrs Justice Johannah Cutts claimed: ‘Throughout the trial you maintained that only Miss Irish was your client, but I disagree with this statement.
“You are not a knight riding on white charges. Your anger and violence were quickened by your control.
“I don’t hesitate in calling you dangerous. Your goal was not to inflict serious injury on your girlfriend, but also to murder her unborn baby.
“Having expressed anger on previous occasions at Ms. Irish’s pregnancies, you dealt such a forceful blow to her stomach that it caused her placenta rupture seven months later.
“As her partner, she had the right to support and love but your injuries and physical pain caused her to have to give birth to an unborn child.
“Your prior convictions demonstrate a propensity for domestic assault.
“You are a danger to the people with whom you are in a relationship.”
Davison, who is a chef, was present via a link and walked away in protest as the judge sentenced.
According to the court, Miss Irish had been pregnant before she began a relationship in 2020 with Davison.
He assured her that they would continue to be a married couple even after the baby was born. But there was still resentment in his heart.
Later, Miss Irish was notified by police that recordings were found on the phone. One of the recordings he made was of him stating that it broke his heart that the baby wasn’t his.
He also said: ‘I don’t give a s**t about your baby.’
On May 29, 2020 his resentment turned into violence when he rode his bicycle down a side street with his partner.
Witnesses said he treated the woman “like a dog on lead” before kickin’ her belly.
One person heard someone dragging a bag full of compost up the street.
Sarah Jones was the prosecutor. She stated that the person who caused the death of Miss Irish’s baby was the one who earlier spoke out about his anger at having to feed and raise another man’s child.
She said that he kicked, punched, and led her down a street. He chased her away while she fled.
Ms. Irish survived the ordeal and remained with Davison. In September 2020, he again attacked Ms. Irish.
Davison was convicted on four counts: actual bodily hurt, grievous body harm with intent, perverting the course justice with intent.
Davison represented himself. He maintained his innocence and said he was a peaceful, spiritual person.
Today, he told court: “The basic fact is that I did not commit the crime.”
“I have never intended to harm a woman.” I am a very peaceful person in my spiritual and physical development.
A court was informed that Davison was a licensed assaulter of another former partner. He committed the attack which resulted in Ms. Irish’s death.
Kate Lewis, CPS Wessex crown prosecutor, stated that “Right at the beginning of this heartbreaking case, CPS worked closely alongside the police to ensure there was a strong case against the accused.”
“The evidence from CCTV footage, witnesses, doctors, and mobile data proved that Davison had set out to kill his partner and to cause her death, according to the court.
“Davison was a domestic abuser who repeatedly caused the death of a baby.”
“It’s absolutely terrible to learn that a baby who was still completely dependent upon its mother died as a result of such an aggressive attacker.
“We commit to protecting vulnerable individuals in society and ensuring violent perpetrators get punished.”
