After meeting Kate Middleton backstage at Royal Variety Performance, Josh Widdicombe revealed that he requested Kate to join his podcast on parenting.
London’s 38-year-old comedian appeared earlier today on Good Morning Britain. He was there to promote Bit Much, which will begin on 1 February.
He told presenters Richard Madeley and Susannah Reid that his agent bet him £100 to invite the Duchess of Cambridge, 40, onto his show ‘Parenting Hell’ last year.
She approached him from behindstage and he said: “We would love to have your podcast.” She was so unfocused on a question that I have never witnessed in her entire life. Matilda was her first cast.

Josh Widdicombe from London (38), has admitted that he invited Kate Middleton (44) to his parenting podcast “Parenting Hell” after meeting backstage at Royal Variety Performance
Appearing on the programme, Susannah asked Josh: ‘You know what a lot of us got addicted to during lockdown was podcasts and you have a brilliant one with Rob Beckett.
“But, as we have just spoken to Kate Middleton about parenting, you are not convinced that she is a guest.
Josh explained, “I did the Royal Variety Performance. And you must stand there to meet the royals.
‘My agent said: “I bet you £100 you won’t ask her to come on your podcast.” “I thought: I won’t let this chance pass.

He said that he’d never seen the Duchess so overwhelmed after inviting her to his podcast.
He added: “Will is gone, and then Kate rises.” Because it was something that I had discussed in the standup about, she spoke of parenting. I thought, “This is my chance.”
He explained that Duchess was quick to move on from his invitation and added, “She doesn’t pay attention to my knowledge.” If she does she will play a canny game and pretend she didn’t get it.
Kate has previously appeared as a guest on Giovanna Fletcher’s Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast in 2020, telling several personal stories about parenting.
In a tell-all conversation, she thanked her parents Carole, 65 and Michael 70 for their ‘huge devotion’ to raising her and her 2 siblings Pippa (36) and James (22).

Kate was a past guest on Giovanna Flecher’s Happy Mum, Happy Baby Podcast in 2020, where she shared personal stories about her parenting journey.
In the extraordinary interview – one of the most intimate ever given by a senior Royal – she shared her anxieties and doubts about parenting including battling ‘mummy guilt’ and worrying about falling short in her parenting to George, Charlotte and Louis.
Josh’s remarks come after a former employee said that the Royal Family needs ‘conventional performers’ because it is facing a tough year.
The Duchess of Cambridge has been lauded for her role in shaping the Monarchy’s future, despite Prince Andrew’s legal struggles and the Firm’s concern over Prince Harry’s forthcoming memoir.
Patrick Jephson (ex-chief of staff to Diana, Princess Of Wales) stated that the scandal involving Prince Andrew showed the monarchy needs reassuringly traditional royal performers.
