A lucky house-hunter could bag an award winning, multi-million pound Art-Deco-inspired mansion for just £25.

Tindale Towers in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, has its own pool, sports court and penthouse bedroom suite and was recently put on the market for £2,240,000.

The incredible property, once featured channel 4’s TV series ‘I Own Britain’s Best Home’, has now been put up for raffle, via the website Raffall, for just £25 per ticket.

Mike Keen, who owns the property and built it, said: ‘There’s a lot of discussion about the price at the minute but it would cost you around £5 million to build a house like this these days so someone is going to win it for a £25 ticket.

“It’s an amazing property and I built that so I would know.

‘No one has such a lot of money in the region. It would have probably been sold immediately to a footballer, if it was in Newcastle or Middlesbrough.

“But sadly, it is a bit too distant, even though the motorway doesn’t seem far away, it’s just a tiny bit too far for them.

“We should be putting up this area really, not putting down and encouraging people here to invest in this area and bring employment to the area.

It will last for six month so we still have some time and I hope people might consider buying Christmas gifts for their friends.

“We’ll just keep hoping that it all works out, and that someone is lucky.”

The ground floor includes a spacious entrance hallway with access into a cloakroom. There is also a ground floor toilet. A laundry room and laundry room are also available. Double doors open to the grand interior hallway which leads directly to the living room, sunroom and grand staircase. There is also access via a garage door to the six car garage.

To be in with a chance to win the home, entrants must answer a question correctly and pay £25 for a ticket. So far, there has been at least 100,000 entries. The draw will close within six months.

This is just the latest example of frustrated homeowners who decide to resell their homes after they are unable to sell.

In June this year, a stunning mansion worth £3.5 million and set behind beautifully hedged walls with private gates was being raffled off in the Omaze Million-Pound House Draw, with tickets starting at £10 for 15 entries.

However, it is not always possible for homeowners to make their dreams come true. Darren Wordon’s reality came crashing down as he found his new home in the Cotswolds brought a bundle of issues.

After winning the draw this year, Darren discovered his £2.5million Cotswold pile is plonked in a valley prone to severe flooding.

What law governs the new trend to raffle off homes?

According to the Gambling Commission, pay-to-enter raffles, draws and competitions, where a person’s home is the prize, can only be run for good causes – such as charities or other not-for-profit causes, and cannot be run for private or commercial gain.

The profits can be used by homeowners to recover the home’s value, but they must donate the extra cash to a worthy cause.

To qualify as a prize competition and not a lottery, the outcome must be based on skill, knowledge or judgment.

This unconventional method of selling a home is becoming more popular among homeowners who are struggling to sell their property.

Last October, a £1.7million Georgian manor in Aberdeenshire with 32 acres, a nine-hole golf course and a helipad, was raffled-off for just £25 a ticket.  The prize included a housekeeper, groundsmen, utility bills paid for a year, stamp duty and £2,000 towards solicitor’s fees.

The entry requirements for the draw were to complete a crossword with Christmas themes.

The lucky winner got the flat, stamp duty of up to £13,000, legal fees up to £1,000 with VAT and a bottle of bubbly to celebrate.

Adding to the this trend, a £2.3m Devon mansion was also sold through a pay-to-enter raffle last year.
