Kate Garraway detailed the heart warming moment that she and her family shared with her husband Derek Draper as he continues to recover from Coronavirus.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain with co-host Richard Bacon, 46, Kate, 54, spoke of the extraordinary moment that the family realised ‘he does understand’ them. 

Kate explained that Derek has a lot of communication and mobility problems.

The presenter spoke of a moment when playing a moral question game with their two children, Darcy, 15, and Billy, 11, and her parents by Derek’s bed.  

Kate detailed how the group answered the question, “Who’s more likely to get money from the ground and hold it?”‘.

Darcy added, “Everyone said the same thing in the room at the exact same time!” He agreed. [Derek]Laughed.

“It was just the most beautiful moment because you thought, He does get it. He understands.

‘And he’s right! She is most likely because she is!She laughed.

Richard asked if the moments happen often as Kate responded: ‘You get these extraordinary flashes which create a huge surge of hope.’

But he also said: “That must sustain you through periods when it feels like there’s no change.” 

“But, most importantly, we are lucky that we have the opportunity because of many people who died.”

Richard spoke out about Kate’s NHS team: “Sometimes, when you go through the most difficult human experience you can also see the best in human nature.” 

Kate said that she agreed with Kate. “There are good things out of this pandemic. They’re the community, sharing and kindness.” 

Derek, a former political adviser was taken to the hospital by the virus. It had swept through the United Kingdom in March 2020 and quickly spread throughout the country. 

Thankful: Kate admitted there was still a 'long, long way to go' with regards to his recovery, but that she felt grateful to have him home this festive period

Thanksful: Kate said that although there were still many steps to take in regards to her son’s recovery, she is thankful to have him back home for this Christmas period.

He spent last December in hospital but has recently returned home and she felt grateful to have him back this festive period.

Kate said that he still had a long road to recovery and she is grateful to him for being with her during the festive season.   

She said, “Last Christmas Eve we had a lot promise and lots of hope.” Derek, however, was still in the hospital.

“We did not know whether or not he was going live, but we prayed it would be in the right way.”

Piers is retiring after eleven years as host of the Good Morning Britain show. Piers made an emotional appearance before she took over on confessional ITV.

GMB friends before Piers’s sudden departure in March, the pair discussed Kate’s 24-hour care for Derek while he recovers slowly from COVID-19.

For you: The card contained a handwritten message from Derek as he continues his recovery from COVID-19 at the family home in north London

To you: Derek left a message on the card, which he wrote to express his gratitude for continuing his rehabilitation from COVID-19. 

Kate couldn’t contain her emotion when Piers gave her an anniversary card. It was handwritten by Piers as he continued his healing at her family’s home in north London. 

She explained that their children Darcy, and Billy had bought Derek a card at a local shop before the September 16th wedding anniversary.  

Morgan opened the card and saw the words “So proud of You” written on it. Morgan then revealed the handwritten message, which read: “Very Proud.” Love Derek x.’ 

Kate tried to cry but couldn’t help it. She said, “Well, I’m proud of him.”
