Kate Garraway, a tearful wife and mother of Derek Draper, prayed this week for his recovery from the terrible effects of COVID-19. 

Following falling seriously ill with unpredictable respiratory bugs, the ex-political advisor was brought to the hospital. 

Kate, 54 years old, says she is still hopeful for a miracle in the midst of her husband’s battle to heal from the horrible damage the disease has done to his organs.

While appearing on BBC2’s Walking With …, Good Morning Britain, the presenter of Good Morning Britain enjoyed a time of quiet reflection and visited a Cotswolds parish. He even had the chance to pray. 

Reduced to tears by the visit to Saint Mary’s Church in rural Great Witcombe, she explained: ‘I haven’t been to church since Derek got sick. Our family used to attend church regularly. We haven’t been in one since then. 

“It does seem like there is an amazing sense of peace. This makes me very emotional.

The presenter is also seen offering a silent prayer on behalf of her husband, before telling the crew: ‘You can probably guess what I’m praying for. This is a special act.    

Kate also  reflected on her moments of ‘great fear’ amid Derek’s COVID-19 battle and heartbreakingly confessed: ‘It’s hard because the person I wanted to give me a hug is the person that can’t – and that’s Derek.’    

The  presenter was away from her family while filming the BBC 2 series, where she takes a hike through the rolling Cotswold countryside.  

Kate spoke out about her husband, Darcey (15), and William (12) being sick.

The Mirror exclusive video clip shows the loving mother-of-2 adding: “There’s something to coming here and reminding your self that you can feel nature wrapping its arms around and giving you love back.

Then she added: “I am very thankful for today.”

Kate has been keeping her followers updated about the health of her husband throughout his battle with cancer.  

Kate was on the program as the husband’s caregiver and spoke out about the first time she had been away from her home for over a year and how nature has given her solace and joy.

Kate was accompanied by a drone as she walked alone through the lush greenery, sharing her experiences and meeting locals. 

She spoke to PA news agency: ‘I think it’s the first time I’ve been on my own since Derek was sick, really, because in between that I’m sort of flitting between working and children and going to the hospital when Derek was in hospital and being at home with him now he’s at home. 

“Taking a walk for your own enjoyment is a treat that I truly enjoyed.”

Derek had to be admitted because of the severity of his illness. He suffered from kidney failure and liver damage. 

His heart stopped repeatedly, and he was treated for pneumonia. He also had to fight infections that caused his lungs to burst.  

Kate produced a documentary that chronicled the experience, and it won a National Television Award in Best Authored Documentary.

Now, it is confirmed that there will be another film. This will follow Derek’s journey home. 

Although the exact release date has yet to be confirmed, the film will air this winter on ITV. 

Kate also wrote a book about the experience called “The Power Of Hope”.
