Surprised to have given birth to 12lb child, a first-time mother was stunned.

Fiona Hamilton Currie (40), who lives in Kent near Tunbridge Wells had no other choice than to dress Buddy, her baby, in 6-month-old clothes, because Buddy was so large.

Buddy was born by c-section February 2021. The nurses and midwives gasped at his arrival.

The mother was working as a manager in an ecigarette company and couldn’t raise her son for six weeks.

Buddy is still above the average nine months later, and currently weighs about the same weight as a baby of 20 months.

Fiona explained that newborns usually drink 10-30mls milk. But, because he was only having 75ml of it, Fiona and I had to weigh him in order to confirm he was still on the right track.

“My midwife worked for thirty years. She said that this is her biggest baby.

“I was sure he would be large when I was pregnant but nobody believed me.”

“I was a huge bump and I felt like I couldn’t move from one surface to the next.

Now, nine months on, Buddy remains above average size, currently weighing the same as a 20-month-old baby

Buddy’s current weight is the same at 20 months. Nine months later, Buddy still exceeds average in size.

Buddy went straight into outfits for a six-month-old and never got to wear any of his newborn clothes

Luckily Fiona  (pictured with Buddy) had a friend with a newbnorn she could pass on his unworn baby clothes to

Buddy was six months old when he went to outfit shopping. He never got to wear his baby clothes. Fiona (pictured here with Buddy) was fortunate to have a friend, who could share his baby clothes.

He was born and everyone helped me to know what I should do for a baby so big.

The doctor kept seeing him as a huge newborn because he was so big.

Buddy may be a very bouncy baby but it’s not his biggest.

Guy Carr (Barrow-in-Furness), Cumbria’s 15lb-8oz, was the UK’s heaviest born baby. She was delivered by caesarean section on December 8, 1992.

George Joseph King, who arrived on February 11 in 2013, is thought to be the biggest baby born naturally in Britain.

His birth weight was a shocking 15lb 7oz, more than twice that of the 7lb 8oz average for newborns.

In December 2017, Brodey Young became the heaviest baby born at a hospital in a decade, tipping the scales nearly 13lb.

He weighed in at 12lb 130z – nearly the same as a bowling bowl, stunning midwives and doctors on the Blueberry Ward at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby – and his mother Sheralyn Wilcock, of Cleethorpes.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the heaviest baby ever born was the son of Canadian giantess Anna Bates (née Swan) who gave birth at her home in Seville, Ohio, on January 19, 1879.

The baby was 22 lb (9.98kg) in weight and measured 71.12 cm (28 in). Although the infant was not named, she was simply referred to by his name, “Babe” and died shortly after 11 hours.

“When you have an emergency c-section, it is forbidden to lift any heavier than your baby. I was unable to even lift my son because he was so heavy.”

He is now 24 years old and was born at the same weight as one gallon of paint.

Fiona explained that although a c section wasn’t in the plans, Buddy was unable to monitor my heartbeat when I tried pushing.

“I was given general anesthesia for an emergency C-section. He was not conscious at the time of his removal, however, nurses reported that there had been an audible gasp.

Graham, my 46-year old partner was banned from the room. We didn’t even see him leave the room when he entered.

“I imagine it always like Mary Poppins’, where she grabs the lamp from her purse. The midwife then pulled him out of his bag and he continued to go.

“I would like to tell his birth story to make it more embarrassing for him when he turns 18!”

Fiona left Buddy clothes that Buddy could not wear. She was then able, with the help of Buddy, to gift these clothes to Fiona to another friend.

“She said, “Fortunately, when I was admitted to the hospital, one my friends suggested that I bring some larger clothes.

“I was able to fit my son in one of the newborn outfits.

“Even that was like sausage skin on him. The outfit also had a cap that we had to balance on our heads because it wasn’t fitting.

“When we took him home, we immediately changed to his three to six month clothes.”
