French police have arrested one of the suspect killers of Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist.
Khalid Alotaibi was detained today at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris as he tried to board a flight from Paris to Riyadh.
French RTL Radio said the person arrested was a former Royal Guard of Saudi Arabia who is believed to have been involved in the killing of Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in October 2018.
France took action on a Turkey warrant in 2019.
Khashoggi (a prominent Saudi journalist who was living in self-exile in The United States) was strangled and dismembered by a hit team at the Saudi consulate.
Although he was once close to the Saudi royals, the journalist wrote critical articles in The Washington Post before his death about Mohammed bin Salmanand the policies he advocated.
Khashoggi’s murder brought international suspicion to the crown prince. A UN investigator reported in 2019 that there was evidence.
