Shortly before his death from coronavirus, a fit 42-year old father who loved rock climbing and bodybuilding left a message for his sister to say “don’t give up on my”
John Eyers was a Southport construction specialist from Merseyside. He had been hiking in the Welsh mountains for a month and camping wild until his July death, exactly four weeks after his positive test.
His twin sister Jenny McCann from London said he was the ‘fittest, healthiest person I know’ and had thought he would only have a ‘mild illness’ if he contracted coronavirus, adding that he had a ‘belief in his own immortality’. Ms McCann stated that Eyers was healthy, but that Eyers also had asthma.
Mr Eyers expressed his wish to have been vaccinated before he was placed on a ventilator at hospital. Infected and suffering from organ failure, she died in intensive medical care. Her daughter, aged 19, survived.
Mrs McCann revealed the last text she received from her twin brother before he was induced into a coma, sent on July 11, read: ‘Don’t let them give up on me.’
The condition of Mr Eyers deteriorated over time and on the morning July 27, his family learned that he was now in serious but stable condition.
He was just moments away from his family when he died that night.
John Eyers (42), was a mountain climber and had just finished wild camping in the Welsh mountains one month prior to his July death at Covid.
Mr Eyers, before being placed in a hospital ventilator, told his consultant that it was his wish he’d been immunized.
Jenny McCann, his sister, had taken a picture of herself after she received her first Covid jab in May.
Mrs McCann from Pinner, North West London who received her first shot on May 10 described her brother He was a staunch anti-vaxxer. He was a’staunch anti-vaxxer’, she said.
In August, the mother of two posted several tweets regarding Mr Eyers. It was a week following his death. She said: “My 42-year old brother, who died last week in ITU (intensive care unit) at Covid-19, died.” After testing positive, he died four weeks later.
“He was one of the most fit and healthy people I knew. Four weeks prior to his death, he was mountain climbing in Wales and camping wild four more times. His only known pre-existing medical condition was his belief in his immortality.
“He believed that he would be fine if he got Covid-19. He believed that he would get mild symptoms. He refused to have a vaccine put on his body. Every drug was available in the hospital. They tried everything to get him.
“But, eventually, the corollary of Covid-19 (infection and organ failure) claimed his life. He told his doctor that he wishes he’d been vaccinated before he was placed on ventilatory support. It was clear that he regretted not listening. It is tragic that he died.
It shouldn’t happen. His family includes a mother and father, my sister and her 19-year old daughter. They have both lost their uncle. They lost their Uncle, who was always there to play.
“The Uncle that dressed as Father Christmas Day on Christmas Day. My mother has lost her baby boy. My aunt, who was so loved by her Dad.
“This should not have happened. John’s story is what my mom wants everyone to hear. To save someone’s lives. People should feel pain or loss in order to obtain a vaccine.
On May 10, Mrs McCann tweeted a photo of herself with her vaccination card. She said that she was ‘full on crying after receiving the Covid jab. It really shows how much weight our collective has been carrying. We are so grateful for the NHS.
McCann then wrote, July 3: To all anti-vaxxers. Her staunch, anti-vaxxer, non mask wearing 42-year-old twin is now admitted to hospital with Covid, pneumonia. As he struggled to breath, he was rushed in an ambulance. He wouldn’t have died if the vaccine had been given to him. Take the vaccine.
As a technical specifications professional and senior manager in the construction sector for Kerakoll, a chemical manufacturer company Kerakoll, Mr Eyers was responsible.

“I met John my first time when I was a student at Southport College. This led to me working with John for more than 25 years. We have remained close friends ever since.
John, who was truly one of a kind and a gentleman, will be deeply missed. My thoughts are with all his family & his friends.’
Charlie Garforth stated that John Eyers was an amazing man whom he spent much of his time. It is a tragedy for their family.
“But it was also a wake-up call, because it felt very near to home. His lifestyle was ideal and he had the kind of health that most people want in their 40s.
Jenny McCann said that Mr Eyers, a construction expert was the ‘fittest and most healthy person’ she knows.
Merseyside resident, Mr Eyers leaves behind his parents, a 19-year-old daughter, and his twin sister Jenny.
Linda Rowney stated that John was a dear friend and colleague of hers. It is an understatement to say that I’m very upset. Your life could be saved if you get immunized.

Mo Jabbar said, “So many adventure we won’t see again. However, I am deeply grateful for all the ones that we had.”
“The Camps, climbs, life conversations, on the way to the Hangar. It was full of laughter, last-minute excursions to Lakes, and freezing cold days at ridges.
“We were mountain men. John, you were a one-of-a kind man. Your presence will be deeply missed. My heart bleeds for your family. You and your family will always be in my thoughts.
Also, Mrs McCann was praised for sharing her story on social media. Newcastle-based doctor Dr Alison George said that it was “absolutely heartbreaking Jenny.
I can only picture the pain that you are all feeling right now. Covid denialists need to be aware of the terrible realities that Covid can cause. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
Mrs McCann replied: ‘Thanks Sara. You are a favorite/balm for our family. I also love Between the Covers. He would be thrilled to learn that you caught my eye.
After taking part in bodybuilding, Mr Eyers thought he would have only a mild infection if he was diagnosed with coronavirus.
Saurav (a Twitter user) said, under Mrs McCann’s posts regarding her brother: ‘I can ratify that. A marathoner and power lifter myself, I believed Covid could not do any thing to me.
“The first two days following my illness were some of the most difficult days in my entire life. We were able to control the symptoms by day four thanks to my quick medical attention.
Another Twitter user called Emma said: ‘As an A&E nurse this is something I am hearing a lot of lately. The younger, unvaccinated adults between 18 and 40 years old are often seriously ill and need oxygen therapy in order to survive. One thing unites them all. All of them have one thing in common: they all promise to get the vaccine after their recovery.
Anti-vaxxers made a list of condolences for McCann. “Sorry, for your loss. But hard pass on getting vax. I had already taken Covid to make my antibodies more effective… You are omitting an obvious condition that he may have had so you can vax.
A second comment: “Cute story. It’s not worth it. I am going to tell you all about my fully vaccinated coworker, currently in ICU.
Another said that she had been paid by NHS and Government to speak all of this. Please don’t listen.
