Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has apologised after a collision with Fernando Alonso forced him to retire from the Belgian Grand Prix.
The seven-time world champion made contact with Alonso on turn 14 that caused the back half of his car to jump into the air before being forced off the road.
Alonso was annoyed that his ex-teammate had cut through him and said, “What an idiot!” The door was closed from the outside.
“We had a huge start. He only knows how drive.
Hamilton later told Sky Sports: ‘He was in my blind spot and I didn’t give him enough space, so that’s my fault. Our sincere apologies to the entire team.

Lewis Hamilton was in contact with Fernando Alonso during the Belgian Grand Prix’s first lap.

Initially, he tried to keep going but Mercedes staff then told him to quit.

Hamilton’s ex-teammate Alonso thought he was being cut across, and he said “What an idiot!”

Hamilton continued to drive but then was told by Mercedes staff that he should stop. He will not have made the chequered flag for the first time this season. After the accident, he was given a warning about refusing to use the medical tent.
Valtteri bottas was also forced to quit the race following an accident with Nicholas Latifi.
Latifi needed to take out and repair his front wing, but he will go on.

Latifi managed to finish the race after he had his front wing repaired and was allowed to go on.

Max Verstappen leads the Grand Prix, despite having started in 14th
After starting 14th in the Grand Prix, Max Verstappen became the Champion Leader and took first place.
Charles Leclerc was Charles’ closest rival, but he finished fifth.
After starting at pole, Carlos Sainz fell to third.
