Professional cleaner discovered a “mind blowing” feature in her dishwasher to clean dirty cutlery.
Liesl Elizabeth, a Perth-based cleaning service called Clean-Freak Cleaning Co., shared a video showing how knives and forks are placed on the top rack during loading the dishwasher.
Typically used for long knives, bigger utensils and chopsticks, the mum-of-three was able to stack the cutlery perfectly in between the ridges of the tray.
In her TikTok video she joked that she was today years old…learning the obvious.
She had three children under her roof, and a business to manage. She stated that she created the video after being’mindblown’ about the feature.
Her video has been viewed more that 14,000 times. Many have admitted that they did not know the top rack had a slot for cutlery.
“I was baffled, my father-inlaw came over and did this, and I didn’t know it.” One woman laughed and wrote that she was baffled.
One woman asked, “Is this witchcraft?” One woman asked: “Is this witchcraft?” While another wrote: “It did appear like a lot more teeth than I understood the purpose for.”
One added, “Oh my God, I feel so dumb”, to which Liesl replied, “My too.” I’ve owned my dishwasher for years and didn’t know that cutlery fit in this drawer. It was used for large knives and lids.
Many people claimed they knew the feature. One person said that they didn’t. Another added: “How else would you do that?”

Another said, “It’s literally illustrated by the user manual”, to which Liesl replied: “But who has the time to read that?”
Some claimed their dishwasher came with a cutlery tray, while others claimed they don’t have the patience to stack smaller items on the top rack.
One wrote: “It’s so easy to just throw in a basket,” while another said: “I wouldn’t have the patience.” You can just toss them in.
Liesl was amused by the response and said: “Trust me, it was for show. There’s no way that I’m doing this every single time.
Earlier this year, CHOICE’s consumer expert Ashley Iredale tackled the question of whether a cutlery basket or a tray was best for cleaning.
He said, “We’ve found that it doesn’t matter – it comes down personal preference.”
“I am a basket man.” I find it tedious to load and unload each item in a tray. The cutlery tray also reduces how high you can place other items in the dishwasher.
