In April, she spoke about how the split could affect their children. She said: “It’s unsettling if it seems like I’m the Stepford Wife parent…

‘Nobody is. Martin and I have done irreparable injury to them and I know they will seek therapy. That’s what I am striving for and what Martin strives for as well — to create a place where they’re not hiding anything.’

Martin recently played the role of a Liverpudlian officer responding to mental health problems. This prompted a backlash against TV’s use of regional accents.

Martin is the Responder. Chris is an urgent responder officer in Liverpudlian who has to deal with marital and mental problems.

Lord Alan Sugar, an Apprentice actor, was critical of his accent. He claimed that he could not understand the BBC thriller and struggled to comprehend a word.

His words were: “Hard for me to understand what he and the other cast are saying. Liverpoolians are very down-to-earth people, and I don’t mean any disrespect. My wife stopped watching as she claimed she couldn’t comprehend a single word.

A Twitter user called him “the most wealthy billionaire in the universe”, while others worried that his comments might hinder efforts to obtain big television dramas from outside London.

Backlash: Martin’s new role as a Liverpudlian officer responding to mental health problems recently caused backlash about regional accents in TV.

Martin claimed that he spent hours learning the accent and spoke to himself for about a year.

According to him, the BBC’s Front Row radio program was ‘the idea of going up amongst a bunch of Scousers cast and crew and balling it up, was quite sobering. So I decided that it would be my goal to get it absolutely right.

“And I always stated that if I wasn’t 100% sure I could do it, then I wouldn’t do the accent. If the accent was like 80% or something.

“And I wanted desperately to play that part. In a pleasant way you were aware that I was not from these parts. I didn’t feel that way.

“But I thought that it was important to not think you have this. To keep it in check, work hard, hone it and do it consistently.
