There are many reasons why I was excited about the barn-burner election results for Virginia’s governor’s race. It is a clear, direct repudiation for the insanity which has overtaken Virginia’s school boards, particularly the divisive and toxic agenda of Critical Race Theory.

It is a devastating loss for a Democratic Party that has drifted so far from normal, rational mainstream Americans. This cannot be spun any other way. However, a quick look at Twitter will reveal that some of the most radical characters are already trying.

Although it will take weeks to fully unpack this race’s autopsy, one of the most striking aspects of last night’s events was his utter absence.

Glenn Youngkin, the Governor-elect, could not be more different to President Trump. He is a calm, congenial, and all-around gentleman. A former vestry servant at Holy Trinity Church McLean, VA. He has been married to his same woman since 1995 and they have four children. He is a great example of Mr Rogers, a beloved children’s television host.

He is indeed a highly successful businessman and a millionaire, but it was not something that I noticed while he was running for office. He was so focused on the meat-and potatoes issues that impact Virginia voters.

He couldn’t be further from the proudly self-aggrandizing and self-aggrandizing, crassly, immoral adulterer that our former President Trump is.

I was initially skeptical about Glenn Youngkin, as I am with all Republican candidates coming up in this season. I cannot help wondering how Trumpy will they contort themselves into being and how far they will debase their principles at the altar of the Cheeto Jesus.  Pictured: Youngkin with his wife Suzanne at an election-night rally at the Westfields Marriott Washington Dulles

Trump acolytes will never appeal to me and never have my respect. And that not only goes for me, look at what happened in the suburbs in Virginia. One of the reasons Trump lost the general election was because he repelled so many 'soccer moms', the college-educated backbone of our suburbs. Yet yesterday they flipped on the Democrats in droves and swung behind Youngkin

Trump acolytes won’t appeal to me, and I will never respect them. This is not just for me. Take a look at what happened in Virginia suburbs. Trump’s defeat in the general election was due to his hatred for many soccer moms, the college-educated backbone that make up our suburbs. But yesterday, they flipped on the Democrats and voted for Youngkin.

I am a lifelong conservative and am increasingly annoyed by the madness of the progressive Left. But I still believe that character, ethics, and morality are fundamental to American politics. We conservatives should never have let this go and should fight for it to be reinstated in public life.

But yesterday, they flipped on the Democrats and voted for Youngkin.

This is why liberal journalists tried to tie Glenn Youngkin to Trump last night. Olivia Nuzzi, New York magazine’s editor, even compared Youngkin’s victory party to a Trump victory celebration – which was not only a grasping at straws, but also horrendously sexist. Can you imagine if a FoxNews reporter said that about Democrat females?

Youngkin and his campaign were able to strike a fine balance between how closely they wanted President Trump to identify them. The Washington Post today noted that this balancing act was a success.

President Biden campaigned with Terry McAuliffe, who lost to Glenn Youngkin, a week before the election

President Biden campaigned alongside Terry McAuliffe who lost to Glenn Youngkin a week before election.

Youngkin never ran for President Trump in public and deflected questions about Trump’s controversial views. Although it is reported that President Trump spoke with Youngkin over the phone during the campaign, that’s all we know about the relationship.

Youngkin’s tactic was to never complain, and never explain Trump. Do not have a scorched Earth approach, but do not be seen in public with him.

Youngkin got the best both of them, and it is a brilliant tactic. Trump did not turn his supporters against him, and Youngkin was not too obsessed with fake tanning.

Youngkin, however, remained local and focused on issues that directly affect real voters. Who would have known that it would work?

It was clear that the American public has moved on, regardless of how much the liberal media wants to make Trump’s entire life and every aspect of his presidency.

They can see where the conductorless train is heading under Biden and the progressive radicals infiltrating our education systems to brainwash our kids.

This should be the takeaway for Republicans today as they celebrate. We can win mid-term elections and win 2024 without Trump, his spawn.

Glenn Youngkin, his team of communications strategists and strategists have just given us the blueprint. Now, we just need to not screw it up.

Trump’s fabled base doesn’t need to be beaten up by their master. Their hatred of Biden is all they need to continue chanting “Let’s Go Brandon” and showing up at polls.

Moderate conservatives who can’t stomach Trump don’t have any reason to vote Republican.

And so do sensible Democrats, who can’t stomach their party’s institutionalised and incurable wokery. This is our sweet spot.

Today is the first time I feel any optimism for the reemergence of a true conservative political party without being attached to Trump and his fading brand.

Because Virginia proves you can win without him.
