Meta, formerly Facebook, has announced a new high-end virtual reality headset codenamed “Project Cambria” on Thursday.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg spoke very briefly about the device during the live-streamed virtual and augmented reality Connect 2021 keynote conference that focused on the metaverse and revealed the new name of the social media platform.

Zuckerberg spoke however about Project Cambria’s features such as sensors that allow a user to make natural eye contact with their avatar and make facial expressions while in the metaverse.

The headset will also allow for mixed reality – the merging of real and virtual worlds to produce new environments – using cameras that pass high-resolution full-color video to the headset’s screens.

Zuckerberg stated that Project Cambria was not the next Quest. However, it will be compatible and cheaper than the current headsets.

Meta has always boasted of its goal to transform into a metaverse business, rather than just a social media platform. Meta feels that changing their name to reflect this goal is one step closer to achieving this goal.

People can put on a headset to enter the virtual realm and be anyone or anything they want, all from the comfort of home.

Meta’s metaverse lets people create avatars that have their own unique skin colors, facial features, and clothing.

These avatars can then go anywhere within virtual world – visit friends across the globe, attend a meeting without leaving their home office or even dine with family at an exotic restraint while sitting in their own kitchen.

Project Cambria will bring it all together.

Zuckerberg declared that Project Cambria is “the future of hardware to bring about the metaverse to existence.”

According to the CEO, the product will enable social interactions and make it easier to be productive.

Project Cambrai is an example of this. A user’s avatar can make natural eye contact with others and display facial expressions in real-time to give them a glimpse into their real reactions.

With the Project Cambrai, for example, a user's avatar can make natural eye contact and facial expressions in real time to provide others in the virtual world a glimpse into real reactions. In order to perfect this, the device will likely be packed with a range of sensors to pick up the wearer's every move

This gives others in the virtual universe a glimpse into real reactions. This device will likely have a range sensors that can pick up every move of the wearer to make it possible to achieve this.

Zuckerberg talked about using the headset to see your real desk from a virtual one. He also mentioned that it allows you to write notes with a pen while wearing your headset. This is called mixed reality.

Project Cambria will allow you to see the world around you with full color mixed reality passthrough. This is a different view than the black-and-white passthrough view available on Oculus Quest.

Meta will create a variety of sensors that use reconstruction algorithms to represent your world.

The headset is very lightweight and can be used wirelessly or with an OS built in to it.

To achieve this feat, Project Cambria will feature full color mixed-reality passthrough (AKA the ability to see what's physically around you while wearing the headset), as opposed to black and white passthrough view you can use on Oculus Quest right now

Project Cambria will enable you to see all of the reality around you in full color mixed-reality through the headset. This is in contrast to the black and white passthrough view that you can use on Oculus Quest.

A pair of controllers are shown with control indicators like those of the Oculus Quest – without the extra loop above the buttons.

While no release date was revealed during the live event Zuckerberg hinted that the new headset would be released sometime next year.

While Connect 2021 was primarily focused on Meta’s metaverse at the keynote conference, many people who attended were more interested in the company’s rebrand.

The social media platform announced last week that it was changing its name in a rebrand that focuses on its ambitions building the ‘metaverse.’

The name change comes at a time when the largest social media company in world is facing criticisms from lawmakers as well as regulators about its market power and algorithmic decisions, and the policing abuses on its platforms.

Zuckerberg stated that ‘Right now our brand is so closely tied to one product it cannot possibly represent all that we’re currently doing, let alone the future.’

The company, which has made significant investments in augmented and virtual realities, stated that the change would bring all of its apps and technologies under one brand. It stated that it would not change its corporate structure.
