A video shared on social media shows the officer running from her vehicle to the boot on Rowan Road in Mitcham around 10:15am.

Scotland Yard confirmed that the officer was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Witnesses said that five men ran away from police officers while they were searching for another vehicle. They were later arrested by police. 

A Met Police spokesperson said that officers from the Met’s South West Command carried out an anti-robbery operation at Mitcham on Tuesday 26 October, 2009.

A black, unmarked police car approaches and doesn’t slow down. The officer can be heard screaming in pain as the car rams into him. 

‘An authorised pursuit was conducted on a vehicle that failed to stop at police stations when requested. The suspect vehicle stopped and the occupants fled on foot to Rowan Road SW16.

Five men were taken into police custody on suspicion of robbery and theft of a motor vehicle.[s].

“In addition, weapons and stolen property were also recovered.” Continued inquiries.
