  • She heated the ice cube for about 30 seconds.
  • The ice contains water molecules that help steam day-old rice, without it drying out.

Home cook reveals her easy method of heating cooked rice in the microwave, without it drying out.

Mon Mack from Brisbane placed an ice cube over her rice leftovers before covering it with baking paper.

After 30 seconds of heating the salmon in the microwave, she took out the baking paper, and the ice cubes, which still appeared to be unmelted.

This works because baking paper aids in steaming rice in the microwave. The result is perfectly cooked, fluffy, and fresh rice.

How does an ice cube function?

According to Test Kitchen, the water molecules from the ice helps steam the day-old rice without drying it out.

Paul Adams, Science Research Editor explained why the rice ice cubes stayed intact after it was microwaved.

Microwaves heat foods by activating certain molecules, mostly water molecules, to vibrate fast. He explained that water molecules in ice are locked together in a crystal structure so that they do not vibrate.

“In this hack, rice becomes hot because its grains are water-rich. The heat of rice causes the surface to warm up and ice cubes melt.

“The liquid water that has been released from melting ice must be boiled in the microwave. It will then turn to steam and steam the rice.

“In this hack, rice becomes hot because its grains have water. The heat of rice causes the ice to melt slightly.

After sharing her meal idea video on TikTok, many were curious to know why Mon added an ice cube to her bowl of rice.

“What is the purpose of the ice cube located in the middle the salmon bowl?” One person asked the question, and another replied: “What is the ice for?”

Many people quickly replied to these questions. One explained: “The ice cube steams your leftover rice… You don’t need to cook fresh rice if you already have it.

Another person said that it makes leftover rice taste better and fluffier.

One woman said that it helps to steam rice in the microwave. I often add some water to the rice so it doesn’t get too hard.
