A mother has revealed she spends more than £1,800 a year on cheese to feed her four-year-old son’s ‘addiction’.

Dawn Baker, 43, a Forest Hill resident from South East London, stated that she felt compelled to eat cheese while pregnant with her son Alfie Baker-Knox. He has been hooked since he was three months old when he tried it for the first time.

The mother-of-four, who dubs her son ‘cheese boy’, shared a viral video of Alfie grating giant block of cheddar directly into his mouth that went viral on TikTok.

She now spends around £35 per week on cheese, including packed lunches for Alfie filled with Dailylea dunkers, a cheese string, cheese sandwiches and cheese chunks.

Dawn, a community caregiver, said that her husband is addicted to cheese. He has it with every meal except breakfast. He won’t eat school dinners, as they don’t allow cheese to be added like we can.

“Everything in his packed lunch must have cheese in it. From cheese strings to cheese dips. Even when I make dinner, I have to grate the cheese.

“I must ensure that my fridge does not run out of cheese. It never will.”

Dawn said that Alfie discovered bite marks in the cheese and half-eaten pieces under the sofa when she began walking.

Dawn has faced criticism from other mothers but she hails his addiction as “a Godsend” because it’s responsible both for his incredibly strong teeth and for correcting his flat feet that he had when he was a toddler.

The mother credits cheese for introducing Alfie and his friends to healthy foods that he doesn’t normally like. She blends cheese with vegetables and even makes fruit smoothies with it.

She continued: ‘It’s a way of getting him to eat food he doesn’t want. We will add cheese to the vegetables and mash them up. With his fruit, I can make smoothies from it. It’s been a blessing.

“When I was pregnant, all that I wanted to eat was cheese. I would eat cheese chunks all day. Any kind of cheese provided it wasn’t too stinky.

“I didn’t eat a lot of it before becoming pregnant. I used to have a few slices of cheese on toast every now and again, but that was all. It was Alfie asking me for it.

‘When he goes to the childminders, they’ll serve him cereal for breakfast. However, I know he loves cheese, so I won’t say no. On weekends, he will have omelettes when he is with me.

“People have been saying that I’m a bad mom for letting my son eat so much cheese. But I checked with the doctors and he has the most amazing teeth.

A video of Dawn finding Alfie ‘cutting out’ the middleman to grate cheese in his mouth last month has been viewed over 700,000 times. Other cheese lovers have called him their’spirit animals’.

Dawn says that her husband Lee Knox, 36, her two children Isabelle Baker-Knox (10 and Isabelle Payne (19) and her other children Isabelle Baker Knox (10), are all good friends.

She explained that Aflie is a cheese connoisseur. His favorite meals are cheese-topped shepherd pies and cheesy macaroni and cheese. He also loves baby bells as well as mini cheddars, cheese rolls, and cheese rolls.

Red Leicester and mild cheese are his favourite cheeses. Dawn caught him grabbing the former directly from the cheesegrater last month while Dawn made his Saturday morning cheese-only eggs.

Dawn said, “We were making omelettes, and I went to front to let the kitten in. I returned and he was there with his grater, just greasing it in his mouth. It’s a safety grate.

“He took off the lid because the bowl was full. He then gratified what remained into his mouth. It’s a great way to save time. He loved cheese so much that he had to get rid of the middle man.

“He said he was bored, and that he’s had cheese every way, so he wanted it this one. It was just hilarious to me. I told him that he shouldn’t do it, but he reassured my that he was using the right angle to make sure he didn’t get hurt.

“It was odd to see it go so viral. But maybe it’s due to the fact that so many people love cheese too.
