EXCLUSIVE – A Muslim girl was made to wear shorts by Yorkshire while she trained with the company despite her religious convictions – this incident was revealed during a racist investigation

Sportmail has learned that a Muslim girl had to wear shorts at Yorkshire County Cricket Club, despite her beliefs.

The youngster, a player in one of the Yorkshire girls’ teams, wanted to wear tracksuit bottoms to cover her legs but was allegedly told to wear shorts by a coach who pointed to another Muslim girl on the field who was wearing them. 

Yorkshire discovered the incident during an investigation into racism in Yorkshire. It also revealed instances where jokes about Ramadan were being made. Numerous witnesses witnessed jokes about Ramadan. During Ramadan Muslims are forbidden from drinking and eating in daylight hours.

Yorkshire CCC’s youngster was made to wear shorts by her religion.

This latest information comes just weeks before Azeem Rafiq, an ex-off-spinner, testifies to the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee over allegations of racism.

A Yorkshire Cricket Club spokesperson said: ‘It is essential that those who have experienced racism, discrimination and abuse are able to come forward to share their experiences.

‘The club’s new chair, Lord Patel, has outlined a number of actions to right the wrongs of the past and make sure that the club is inclusive for all.’
