New report claims that streaming giant Netflix has launched a special feed dedicated to children.
Kids Clips, which is being tested for users in the US and other countries – but not the UK quite yet – features short video clips from its existing library of children’s content.
The Kids Clips feature is available for Netflix’s iOS application and lets children watch as many as 20 clips per minute. This will appeal to young viewers, who typically watch clips on YouTube or TikTok.
Kids Clips, pictured here displayed on a smartphone, uses a landscape interface to show content on a phone or tablet, unlike TikTok, which has a portrait display
It will be available in America, Canada, Australia, Ireland and Spain starting this week. MailOnline has reached out to Netflix about the possibility of a UK rollout.
Netflix announced the release of the feature, after it was found in secret code by Steve Moser. Moser’mines for hidden gems from software releases’. Moser, who discovered Kids Clips through hidden code, shared the information with Bloomberg.
Kids Clips displays content using a landscape interface on tablets and phones. You can also add titles to your ‘watch later list’ from the interface.
According to reports, Netflix plans daily new clips based on current and future content.
Expansion: Netflix offers five mobile games for subscribers (pictured) in an effort to get into the subscription game market.
Similar to Fast Laughs launched in March, this feature shows short comedy clips on Netflix.
Netflix has also recently moved into gaming – it rolled out five mobile gaming titles for Android phones worldwide in early November.
It also purchased videogame developer Night School Studio in September. Night School Studio is best-known for their debut game, “Oxenfree”, a supernatural thriller for teens with eerie music.
‘Like our shows and films, these games will all be included as part of your Netflix membership – all with no ads and no in-app purchases,’ the company said.
Also in September, it launched a free subscription plan for users in Kenya with an Android phone, as part of attempts to sign up more users in the African market.
Netflix has 209 million global subscribers and is the largest streaming service in the world.
In July, Netflix published its latest earnings report, which revealed disappointing subscriber growth for 2021, and confirmed it would be expanding into games in the near future.
The streaming giant reported gains of just 5.5 million subscribers in the first six months of this year – its weakest numbers since 2013.
Netflix is still the largest streaming service worldwide, despite the slowdown. This comes in an ever-competitive field, which includes Disney+ and Amazon.
