Rep. Madison Cawthorn trails his main rival state senator Chuck Edwards by single digits as he fights for his seat in North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District.

Although more than three quarters of votes have been counted, the race is still too close for comfort.

Cawthorn narrowed Edwards’s lead to just one point after trailing Edwards more than 10 times in the race.

This 26-year old Republican has been a testing ground for Donald Trump’s endorsement power. Election watchers are waiting to see if Trump’s support can push him to the finish line, despite recent PR crises.

During the GOP Senate primaries in Texas, Trump’s endorsement was sufficient to propel Ted Budd (a relatively unknown lawmaker) to victory and become the Republican candidate for replacing Senator Richard Burr.

Numerous outlets declared Budd as the winner within an hour of polls closing.

In early polls, McCrory was trailing McCrory from North Carolina. Trump’s endorsement made McCrory’s public profile soar.

Bo Hines (26-year-old ex-college footballer) is another Trump-backed candidate. He has an early lead for the 13th Congressional District Republican Primary.

To avoid a runoff, candidates in North Carolina need to have a little more than a 30% share of the vote.

Additionally, more than 576,000 voters cast ballots before Election Day to break the previous state records.

Cawthorn polled 38 percent as of last month in Tar Heel State’s 11th Congressional Division.

Edwards’s figure is double-digits higher than Edwards’, but it shows an 11-point drop from March when the country has been dealing with numerous scandals.

Both races are testing the strength of Donald Trump's endorsement power

Both the Republican and Democratic candidates are evaluating Donald Trump’s endorsement power.

Cawthorn, who was elected as a member of Congress in 2012 for having a handgun with him at the airport when he arrived at that time, has been stopped at least 3 times by North Carolina highway police.

Members of Congress and North Carolina’s own party reacted negatively to his claim that he was invited to an orgy to see senior legislators do cocaine.

He was also criticised for calling Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, a “thug” in the middle of Russia’s invasion. The congressman was then forced to explain why he was showing nakedness and performing sex acts with unknown people. Another video published by DailyMail.com shows the male scheduler of the congressman placing his hand on Cawthorn’s crotch.

Cawthorn dismissed all the faux-pas in his laundry list as “blackmail” and coordinated a “drip campaign” to prevent him winning re-election.

Cawthorn was prevented from winning by spending approximately $1.5 million outside North Carolina.

Leading the charge against him is North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis, who told NBC earlier on Tuesday: ‘If there’s a runoff, Cawthorn loses.’

‘I believe everybody deserves second chances, that’s why I voted for a lot of the criminal justice reform bills. Tillis stated that this can become a routine.

Trump provided Cawthorn an unexpected boost Monday morning, after reports last week indicated that Cawthorn was worried about Trump’s March 2021 endorsement.

Trump posted on Truth Social, “At the age of 18, Madison Cawthorn (now 26 years of old), went through a life-changing event that, fortunately for many people, will never have to go through.”

Cawthorn was paralysed from the waist down in a car accident that occurred in 2014.

The post read, “In just seconds he lost control of his lower body. It was traumatic to say the least.”

“When Madison was elected as the first Congressman, he did an excellent job. Recent mistakes he made were not wise, but I believe that he won’t make the same mistake again. Give Madison another chance.
