Sir Paul McCartney was the most famous solo act to perform at Glastonbury Festival, making history by gracing Worthy Farm’s Pyramid Stage.

Music legend and music producer, Bob Dylan, performed for thousands of festival-goers a selection of his most popular hits. It was his first performance since 2004, when he turned the corner.

The event is an important moment in Paul’s career. This show also comes 55 years after The Beatles achieved the greatest audience ever, performing on the world’s first TV broadcast.

Paul was no slouch. According to reports, he temporarily halted the show in order to see if someone else, who seemed to be suffering from distress.

The Mirror was told by a source: “He was right in the middle of Jimmy Hendricks tribute, when he decided to stop and check on somebody in the crowd.”

Paul addressed the crowd and stated, “Oh, man, it’s so wonderful to be here.” It was meant to have happened three years back! referring to his previous booking at the festibal before it was cancelled because of the Covid pandemic.

For the first few minutes of his headline set, the performer wore a navy Nehru jacket, which he later took off, telling the audience that it was his only wardrobe change.

Paul’s show is the 55th anniversary of a landmark worldwide performance by the Beatles. He also performed using his iconic guitar from that time with The Beatles.

At last! Alluding to his headline set being delayed by Covid, he added: 'We were supposed to be doing this three years ago!'

It’s here! Paul addressed the crowd and stated, “Oh my God, it’s so wonderful to be here.” It was meant to be done this way three years back!

Paul performed Let Me Roll It by Wings during his tribute to Jimi Hendrix, as well as reflecting on the time spent in London with the rock icon.

“He was such a nice man.” One of the greatest tributes he ever paid us was we released Sgt Pepper as a tribute to him and he opened his show with it, he played it really well as a solo… he was really working it, giving it a lot of welly.’

Paul had just celebrated his 80th birthday on Saturday. After his adoring supporters sang Happy Birthday, they joined him in singing I Feel like I’m Letting go, his 1995 hit.

Glastonbury fans were undoubtedly eagerly awaiting Pauls headline set. However, viewers back home were eager to see it on BBC.

However, Paul’s program started at 9:30pm. BBC delayed the broadcast until 10:30pm. Many viewers vented their frustrations on social media.

One writer wrote that he was jealous of all the people watching Paul McCartney live, while another stated: “Hold on! We have to wait an additional hour for Macca?” He’s playing past HIS and MY bedtimes, but it’s okay, BBC, ok

Furious: However, while Paul's show began at 9:30pm, BBC delayed broadcasting the show until 10:30pm, with many viewers sharing their anger on social media

Paul’s highly-anticipated show came 55 years after The Beatles reached their greatest-ever global audience with the broadcast of the first worldwide TV transmission.

On June 25, 1967, the Beatles sang All You Need Is Love to approximately 400,000,000 people in 24 countries. This was live at Abbey Road Studios.

The studio also hosted a stellar audience, which included Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, Keith Richards for The Who drummer Keith Moon, Marianne Faithful and Eric Clapton.

What a view: The now-iconic Pyramid Stage proved to be a jaw-dropping sight in Somerset as fans gathered for Paul's long-awaited headline set

Wow! The Pyramid Stage was a sight to behold as Somerset’s fans packed the Pyramid Stage for Paul’s eagerly awaited headline show

John, Paul George, Ringo, and George were performing at their absolute best. They just had released Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, which was still regarded as one of the great albums of all-time.

As they sat on high-heeled chairs, and were surrounded by balloons, flowers, and placards all around them, the Beatles performed the song live.

Craig Brown (author of Beatles biography One Two Three Four) describes the experience as “like discovering the Summer of Love within a grain of Sand.”

This group represented Britain in the Our World TV Show, the first satellite-based broadcast that featured live performances from all over the world.

Paul had suggested the song Hello, Goodbye, but the group decided John’s all you need Is Love was their message.

Ringo Starr was a drummer who stated in 1994’s Beatles Anthology documentary that “We were large enough to command such a large audience, and it wasn’t for love.”

It was for love, bloody peace. It was wonderful. Even now, I feel excited because I know that this was what the event was meant for: peace and love, people planting flowers into guns.

Blast from the past: The Beatles were at the height of their fame in when the performance was aired, having released Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band just a few weeks earlier. It was also the height of flower power and the 1967 summer of love

Noel spoke to Dermot O’Leary about his BBC Radio 2 radio show, before taking to the Glastonbury stage. The singer was asked why he continues to return to this annual event.

He stated that it was the “only festival” in the world. The only one that is a festival for the arts.

“You could watch a movie, go to a comedy, or join a knitting group. They all have merits and I can tell you that I’ve tried them all. However, this is the best. It is one of America’s greatest assets.

“I visit here more than I play here. I have played here five times, but I still come here every year. It affects the experience of coming to hang out, because there are no flyers or trying to sell insurance.

“You meet the locals, and they bump into you,” you say. A man with a sailor hat and a woman holding a photo of her pet who died last year 30 years ago, and she says, “Ooh, this is my little boy. He died this time last Year.” You’re like: “Ok, where is the John Peel tent ?”.’?”

Noel said that Anais is his first visit to the festival.

American singer Olivia, 19, took to The Other Stage at Worthy Farm where she said she was ‘devastated and terrified’ by the ruling which ended the constitutional right to abortion in the US, meaning individual states could decide whether abortion can be made illegal.

She declared, “I’m devastated. [by the ruling] and so many women and girls are going to die because of this and I wanted to dedicate this next song to the five members of the Supreme Court who showed us at the end of the day they truly don’t give a s*** about freedom.’

Following her speech, which received a lot of applause, Olivia addressed the Supreme Court justices separately, saying, “This song goes out the justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch Neil Coney Barrett, Amy Coney Barrett and Brett Kavanaugh.”

Lily, a 37-year-old pop singer, gave the middle finger while she was on stage. She then said, ‘We hate your guys! The pair then launched into an expletive-filled song.

Supreme Court abolished constitutional protections against abortion, which had been in place for close to 50 years. They ruled to repeal the 1972 Roe v Wade ruling. The decision also gave the individual states more power over allowing or disallowing the procedure.

Because the U.S. Constitution does not specifically mention abortion rights, the justices ruled that 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that permitted abortions before a fetus could be performed outside of the womb – within 24 to 28 weeks of pregnancy – was incorrectly decided.

This ruling gives individual states the ability to make decisions about whether or not to prohibit abortion. Guttmacher Institute is a pro-choice research organization that has stated 26 states have ‘certain’ or ‘likely’ to ban abortion.

Women with unplanned pregnancies throughout the United States will have the option of either traveling to another country where it is legal, purchasing abortion pills online, and/or having an unsafe illegal abortion.

Presidency Joe Biden addressed the White House and said it was “a sad day” for the court. The Supreme Court decision to reverse Roe V. Wade (and making abortions illegal for millions) was called ‘wrong and extreme’.

Devastating: The singer told the crowd she 'couldn't bear to think about' the ruling which ended the constitutional right to abortion in the US, meaning individual states could decide whether abortion can be made illegal

It was devastating. The singer said to the crowd that she couldn’t bear thinking about the US Supreme Court ruling, which ended abortion’s constitutional rights. This means individual states can decide whether to make abortion illegal.

Biden accused the court of “expressly taking away” a fundamental right to abortion for so many Americans. He also promised that the battle over abortion rights was not over and his administration would do all it can to stop women traveling to other states in order to get abortions.

It comes after Billie Eilish admitted it was a ‘dark day for women’ following the US Supreme Court’s decision as she headlined the Pyramid Stage on Friday night.

Billie cursed the ‘old’ Supreme Court justices ‘who try to tell us what to do with our bodies’ after admitting she’d had a real [expletive]day after learning the ruling.”
