After a 42 year-old fell from a chalk cliff, four teens were taken into custody.

Dale Simmons (42) is thought to have been driven to his death. His body was found at 11am Thursday 14 April near Travis Perkins’ base, Jenkins Dale.

He was known locally as Mr Simmons and was referred to by a local homeless charity as a “lovely, brighty chap”.

After the body of the victim was discovered with injuries consistent with falling from height, two 16-year old boys and one 17-yearold were taken into custody.   

Kent Police spokesmen confirmed that four suspects had been arrested by detectives of the serious crime directorate in relation to the suspicious death.

All of them were believed to be known to Mr Simmonds.

According to them, police officers located the body of a 40-year-old man near Chalk Hill on Thursday at 11:01 am.

“It’s believed that he died in the evening following injuries from a fall from height. His death is being considered suspicious.

The man’s next-of-kin were informed and the murder investigation is currently being done by Major Crime Detectives of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.

‘Today [Sunday]In connection to the death of the man, an 18-year old man and a boy aged 17 were taken into custody.

“They were all thought to know the victim. They remain in custody at this point.”

Mr Simmonds was well known to local homeless charity Gillingham Street Angels, and chief executive Neil Charlick told Kent Online: ‘It’s very sad for him and his family. He was well-known to the local community and us.

“He was a pleasant fella. He was bubbly and he loved it.”

“He was a great guy. His smile was infectious and he was always friendly.

In a murder investigation, two teenage boys and one teenager were arrested after a man aged 40 fell from Chalk Pit hill (pictured), in Chatham. A residential lane was used as a crime scene. It has barbed wire and fencing to prevent falls from the chalk cliff.

The Home Office pathologist would be conducting a post-mortem examination of his body in a Chatham mortuary. A coroner will then open the case and adjourn it.

Chatham councillor Vince Maple stated that it was ‘absolutely tragic that this investigation is now into a murder. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Chalk Pit Hill can be described as a residential street with fencing and wire that protects falls from the chalky cliff. 

According to investigations, the victim died sometime in the evening of 13 April.

As forensic officers conducted a thorough search, the area was closed off.  

According to police, his death has been deemed suspicious. 

The officers are seeking anyone with any information.
