Two 16-year-old boys died and another suffered severe injuries in an attack in Brentwood on Sunday morning.
Frankie Watson, 19, has been charged with two counts of murder, one charge of attempted murder and one charge of possession of an offensive weapon.
He spoke only in order to confirm his name as he stood in the dock at Southend Magistrates’ Court for the brief hearing today.

Sunday’s incident in Brentwood was inspected by forensic officers
Watson, a native of Orsett in Essex, wore navy blue sweaters and blue jogging bottoms when he addressed the bench.
Watson will appear at Basildon Crown Court tomorrow.
According to Essex Police officers were called to Regency Court on Sunday at 1.30am. They found three people with injuries, including two teenagers who later lost their lives.
The force also treated the third person for non-life-threatening injuries.
Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Truss who is leading this investigation previously stated that police believe it was an isolated event and ‘there’s no risk to public’. He said the area is safe and such incidents occur very rarely.
He stated that a police presence would remain in the area while the investigation continues. He also appealed to anyone with information regarding what happened to come forward.
Police stated that they would wait for post-mortem results before confirming the cause.
