Piers Corbyn was among a group anti-lockdown protesters who were arrested for violating coronavirus regulations more than one year ago.

The former Labour leader’s brother, 74, is charged with holding and participating in a gathering of over 30 people at Trafalgar Square on August 29, 2020.

Piers faces similar accusations of attending and holding gatherings at Trafalgar Square in August 2020 and October 24, 2020. He also attended gatherings at Westminster in November 28, 2020 and the South Bank in December 31, 2020.

Louise Creffield (35), Vincent Dunmall (55) and Fiona Hine (36) are other anti-lockdown demonstrators on trial. Kay Shemirani is 55.

While the other witnesses appeared individually, Hine and Shemirani are expected to be tried at Westminster Magistrates Court.

Hine will be representing herself. She wants to call witnesses such as politicians Sadiq Khan & Matt Hancock, epidemiologist Neil Ferguson and Alex Murray, Metropolitan Police commander and Professor Jonathan Van-Tam, Deputy Chief Medical Officer.

She wants to speak with them about the locking down restrictions.

She said: ‘I thought I’d give it a go.

‘I’m under no illusion that maybe I’m trying a bit too hard here to prove my point but I want to be given a fair opportunity.’

Hine refused to attend gatherings with more than 30 persons on August 28, 2020 at Trafalgar Square, and September 5, that year at Whitehall.

A charge against her also includes holding an event for more than six persons at Trafalgar Square, 19 September.

Hine claimed that the CPS failed to communicate with Hine. ‘This system is not made and built for people who choose to represent themselves,’ she said.

‘It’s certainly not,’ Corbyn quipped from the dock.

Hine of Putney and Corbyn of Walworth in London are being tried for violating lockdown restrictions. They will be joined by Creffield of Brighton and Dunmall of Orpington Kent and Shemirani of Uckfield East Sussex.

An audience of supporters viewed the hearing from the public galleries and offered Hine applause when she exited the courtroom.

A protest was held outside, with anti-mask signs and antivaccine signs.
