A 40-year-old police detective faces prison after admitting to having sex with a child, and possessing more than 200 inappropriate pictures of children.

An officer who attempted to arrange sex for a child with another detective and kept 227 inappropriate images of young children has been warned that he may be sentenced.

Lee Cunliffe (44) entered guilty pleas during a Liverpool Crown Court hearing today.

Greater Manchester Police detective confessed that he arranged or helped to commit a child sex offence.

Last September, he made arrangements to have sex with a child.

He also confessed to perverting justice, making two police crime reports that said nothing relevant had been discovered on suspect devices.

He was convicted of three counts for making indecent images of a child. These included 155 Category A photographs, 14 Category B pictures, and 58 category C photos.

Hindley green, Wigan officer pleaded guilty to indecent images of a child, misconduct in a government office and failing to investigate a crime case properly.

He pleaded no guilty to 227 child indecent images and attempted to incite sexual exploitation. A misconduct in office charge was also filed. The charges alleged that he did not commit any offences while on duty.

Arthur Gibson, the prosecution, claimed that the pleas were acceptable for the Crown.

Julian King, the defending party, requested for sentencing to be delayed so that a psychologist could prepare a report.

He claimed that personal notes found during the investigation revealed his inner turmoil.

Andrew Menary QC, Honorary Recorder from Liverpool, adjourned Cunliffe’s sentence for January 12th and issued Cunliffe conditional bail.

He stated that he would attend the next opportunity in full expectation of a custodial sentence.

Greater Manchester Police stated that Cunliffe had been arrested December 15, 2013 and was suspended from all duties since.
