The royal photographer revealed that Princess Diana sought his advice about interfaith marriage when they flew together during a mid-nineties tour.
Anwar Hussein, 83, is a Tanganyika-born British photographer who became the longest-serving photo journalist to the royal family, and won the won Arts and Entertainment Photographer of the Year at the Picture Editor Awards three times.
Hussain, who documented Diana’s journey from 1980 up until her tragic death in 1997 and features in documentary ‘Princess Diana: Accredited Access’ which is currently running in Chicago, LA and New York, has revealed how the late royal approached him for a hushed conversation about Islam.
Anwar Hussein, an 83 year old British royal photographer, shared with People his story of how the late prince approached him during a flight in mid-nineties for a quiet discussion about Islam.

Speaking to People, he recalled: ‘All the lights were dimmed on the flight, and she came and whispered, ‘Can I have a chat?’.
“She knew I was married with an English girl Caroline. She was interested in Islam. The question she was asking her about marriage when one spouse is Muslim and the other is Protestant.
He said, “She was interested due to what she was going though with.” [her then-boyfriend]Dr. Hasnat Khan. He was not mentioned by her, however she believed I knew. She was probably wondering what the reaction would be to him or other similar events.

Diana was said to be besotted with heart surgeon Hasnat Khan, whom she reportedly dated from 1995 to 1997, during which Diana met his family and considered converting to Islam.
When Diana visited a friend recovering from heart surgery, Diana and the couple met at Royal Brompton Hospital.
After that, they had a two-year secret affair. It ended in 1997. On August 31, 1997, Diana died in Paris in an automobile accident.
The pain that the surgeon caused to Princess was something her closest friends spoke about before.
He was her cousin and she had been to Pakistan with him during 1996. She wore traditional shalwar kameez, which are baggy pants paired with flowing dresses.
Five years ago, Diana was pictured together with William and Harry. This is five years prior to her 1992 death. Hasnat believe that Diana wanted advice because he was unsure how his family would react to the choice of her partner.
It is believed that she once fell in love with a man and considered marrying him.
After Mr Khan decided that they would never be able to continue their relationship, Mrs Khan abandoned her idea.
Abdul Rasheed Khan was his father. He said that Abdul Rasheed Khan had once told his family, “If she married me, I would…” [Diana]We would never be married for longer than a year. Culturally, we are so different.
“She’s from Venus, and I’m from Mars.” It would seem like two planets marrying if it were to happen.
Jemima Khan was Diana’s friend and was there on the 1996 Pakistan trip. She said that Diana was so in love with Hasnat, she was considering moving to Pakistan.
Jemima says that the surgeon used to hate the idea of having his name in public for the rest of their lives.
Diana and Dodi Al Fayed died together in 1997.
Al Fayed, aged 92, was famously Harrods’ owner between 1985 and 2010. (pictured in February 1996 with Princess Diana) and his son Dodi were said to have been dating the royal.
