Killer Penelope Jackson, who killed her husband in an argument over bubble and sound, is appealing against her sentence.
Jackson (66) was sent to prison for 18 years following her stabbing of David (78). After calling 999, Jackson said that “he is in his kitchen bleeding to death with every luck”.
She was arrested in her pyjamas on the street outside the couple’s £450,000 luxury Somerset bungalow on February 13 while her fourth husband lay bleeding on the kitchen floor inside.
Jackson appeals her sentence, arguing that the ‘video- and audio evidence she released to the public domain during her trial hindered her right of a fair hearing.
According to her legal team she was subjected to mocking and mimicry during her trial at Bristol Crown Court.
The ‘dark humor’ surrounding the case, and the fact that she was a popular meme mean she did not get an impartial hearing.

Penelope Jackson was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment after stabbing David her husband at their home.

Penny, who admitted to manslaughter and denied murder but pleaded guilty, said that David was violent and controlling during their marriage. She also claimed the situation deteriorated in lockdown when David was unable to escape her (she can be seen in court sketches).
Martin Winter, Jackson’s solicitor said that Jackson’s media release and the subsequent interest in it created an unfairness, as it was timed to coincide with her evidence giving.
“The fear is that once images are taken outside the courtroom it will be impossible for the judge or jury to give advice about the evidence.
It was ‘inevitably’ more than just the news media outlets that were responsible and attracted much commentary via social media.
“It was the object of mocking and mimicry, and it became the subject matter memes and dark humor.”
Websites and social media sites circulated a clip where the retired accountant confessed to stabbing David.
The footage from a police bodycam that captured Jackson being arrested outside of her Berrow home was taken by officers. It was later released under the authority of the judge.
Jackson was handed a life sentence by Judge Martin Picton. She will serve at least 18 years imprisonment, plus any time she has already been in custody.
Jackson claimed he didn’t feel any remorse, and that he had chosen to kill her husband.
Jackson – who pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denied murder – insisted David had been violent and controlling and that the situation worsened during lockdown when she ‘couldn’t escape’ him.
The 18-minute, 999 call she received on February 13th was not a memory for her. He was “in the kitchen bleeding from death with any luck” she told him.
The operator repeatedly asked her for help, but she refused.
Jackson wrote down her confession on a piece of paper by the phone and, when Jackson was arrested for murder suspicion, she replied that it was murder. Oh good.’

Speaking to the court, Isabelle said her mother Penelope – who murdered her husband David, 78, on her 66th birthday and calmly told police ‘I should have stabbed him more’ as he lay dying – is ‘not the person I knew’

Isabelle, pictured right and left with her father. She said that she felt like her world had collapsed when she learned of her father’s passing and the arrest of her mother. The moment the police came to our home and explained what was happening, my father died. I also lost my mum. My entire life changed.
The note was titled confession and she said that she accepts her punishment. May he die in hell.
Full note: ‘To whom it may pertain, I have received so much abuse over these years. You can see my German records. He was an excellent daddy. But, tonight’s mask was lost and this is unforgivable. I accept my punishment. I will send him to hell. On the margin of the note was written’sorry for my spelling’
However, she later denied murder by pleading guilty for manslaughter. She claimed she lost control after years of emotional and physical abuse at the hands her husband.
Jurors were told she didn’t intend to murder her husband (a Lieutenant Colonel in the Royal Logistics Corps), but that she had “had enough” and was tired of his abusive behavior. To protect her husband from violence, she said that she took an 8-inch fileting knife along with her to bed.
Tom Potterton was Penelope Jackson’s father-in-law and said that he couldn’t forgive Isabelle for the pain that she had caused to her wife Isabelle. Potterton explained that Isabelle must process her grief, especially the loss of her mother.
He added: “As you tried to explain when I visited (Isabelle), how much pain and suffering have you caused (Isabelle), but you don’t know the anguish and hurt she endures every day.
Potterton said, “This didn’t have to happen.” This was an act of selfishness without regard for how it might affect David and yourself. You could have walked out, but you didn’t.
He continued, saying: “I can honestly tell you that I won’t ever be able (Isabelle) to forgive you for the suffering and pain caused by your actions.”
Isabelle Potterton claimed that Penelope Jackson (her mother) was the one she didn’t know. She murdered David, her retired colonel husband, on her birthday, 78.
Isabelle stated that her world was falling apart when her father died and her mother was arrested. When the police arrived at our house and informed us of the situation, it was clear that I had not only lost dad but also my mother. My entire life changed.
