Queen Margrethe opted for simple makeup and added a touch of color to her lips.

Crown Prince Frederik, who stood next to Elke Buedenbender for much of the procession, looked sharp in a formal black suit and patent shoes.

Elke was wearing a long, flowing bright red dress that complimented her natural hair. She paired it with an elegant necklace of chunky gold.

This banquet is being held after Angela Merkel of Germany made an embarrassing error on Wednesday, when she attempted to hand-bump Denmark’s Queen Margrethe I. She was instead left hanging by the royal.

For Queen Margrethe’s arrival at Berlin with her son Crown Prince Frederik, the German chancellor had laid out the red carpet.

Merkel came forward to welcome the queen, aged 81 years old, as she stepped from her limousine in front of Berlin’s Chancellery. Merkel was wearing a lilac gown.

Queen Margrethe was taken aback by the uncharacteristic gesture of the outgoing Chancellor, which she extended her fist and offered a more informal fist bump.

The Danish royals laughed with their German hosts as they stood outside the palace before the banquet began

As they stood in front of the palace, the Danish monarchs laughed together with their German hosts.

Before placing her hand on Merkel’s chest, the Danish queen paused and signalled to Merkel she wouldn’t be taking part in the greeting that could be considered unfit for a queen.

The awkward encounter was captured on video before a group of journalists. Merkel also raised her hand as if to apologize to the royal. She then turned to meet Crown Prince Frederik who had left his mother in the car.

After the trio of masked men walked down the red-carpet, they were in great spirits and took photos.

On the first day, Queen Margrethe, a Danish monarch, was greeted by Merkel during a four-day trip to Germany.

Both countries are neighbors and allies. They also have strong economic and political ties. The Royal will also be participating in events commemorating the end of World War II.

It was before the famous Brandenburg Gate, which is something that’s customary during state visits.

Queen Margrethe still makes foreign trips, even though she is older. She has made more than 50 in her lifetime as queen.
