This will mark the second occasion that Queen Elizabeth is visited over Christmas by her family, after careful consideration.

Yesterday’s Windsor service was not the usual one. This is part of measures taken to preserve the Sandringham Christmas celebrations.

Because of lockdown, Queen 95 did not visit Sandringham at Christmas. She chose to stay in Windsor with Prince Philip.

Before today’s announcement, she was scheduled to depart for Sandringham Wednesday.

It will mark the Queen’s first Christmas since Prince Philip died earlier in the year. Her family is preparing to support her, so that she doesn’t have to go it alone.

Prince Charles and Camilla are the Duke and Duke of Cambridge and their children. Prince Andrew and Eugenie (the daughters) and Prince Edward (the sons and daughter of Prince Edward), Sophie Wessex and Sophie Wessex will be making the journey to celebrate with the Queen.

Earlier today, reports said the Queen was still keen to go to her beloved 20,000-acre estate at Sandringham, where she normally stays until early February – particularly as she spent last year at Windsor alone apart from her late husband and a handful of staff, due to lockdown.
