The Saturday Kitchen chef, 48, shared a photo from his hospital bed on a morphine drip at The Grange Hospital in Grent on Instagram on Wednesday.
Matt expressed gratitude to the NHS for performing an appendectomy (operation to remove the appendix if it has become infected) after he had one.

Matt was thankful: Matt expressed his gratitude to the NHS for having had an appendectomy, which is a procedure to remove the infected appendix.
Matt wrote: ‘Me, a morphine drip and an emergency appendectomy are keeping me from a much anticipated lunch at @manteca_london with @ollysmith @sarah10016 @hardiegrantuk ….but everything and everyone here at The Grange hospital in Gwent have been fantastic.

In most cases surgeons will remove the appendix in an appendectomy – scientists aren’t sure why people need an appendix but removing it does not harm people.
Although the causes of appendicitis remain elusive, it’s believed to have been caused by obstruction of the organ’s entrance.
Mark took over James Martin’s acclaimed presenting stint on Saturday Kitchen back in 2016.
It was shocking to see what it was like to have such big shoes after the departure of his colleague chef from BBC after a ten-year spell.
According to the television food host, James was not an “insurmountable obstacle” since he had previously been covered by her.
Matt told The Sun that he had a dedicated fan base to win him over. James was always encouraging, though.
James, a Yorkshireman, thanked the viewers who made his BBC series a smash hit with more than three million viewers after he left in 2016.
Matt the father-of-2 would not consider his teenager children Henry and Jessie to be contributing to his stats since they aren’t tuning in to see.
He said that they enjoy hearing about celebrity guests and sharing stories.
“I believe they love it from this point of view,” Matt said. From the whole “my dad’s on telly” thing, not a chance,’ Matt quipped.

Mark was replaced by James Martin in 2016, when he became a renowned presenting host on Saturday Kitchen (James in 2020).
