Shane Warne has been taken by his grieving family to complete his last lap at his St Kilda football ground, while his closest friends watched from the stands.

As the coffin of the deceased 52-year-old was being driven by a hearse in the circle after her intimate funeral, ‘The Time of My Life” from Dirty Dancing’, an 80s classic, played in the background.

Jackson, Warne’s young son, hugged and kissed his father in an emotional scene. The coffin was covered in a St Kilda Saints scarf.

The outdoor portion of the service featured two other songs: Fix You by Coldplay, and, finally, simply The Best by Tina Turner, when Warne was taken away.

Coldplay sings the emotional lyrics: “Lights will Guide You Home” and “Tears stream down Your Face When you Lose Something You Can’t Replace”.

The name Simply The Best is fitting for an Australian icon who has been called “irreplaceable” many times.

Summer Warne was Warne’s youngest child and was crying as the ceremony came to an end. Brooke, his oldest daughter, wore sunglasses throughout the processsion.

The FULL STATEMENT FROM SHANE WIRED’S FAMILY

Keith and Brigitte Warrenne

We will never be able understand the loss of our son, father and brother on March 4th 2022.

It is difficult to find the words to express our sorrow. Looking to the future without Shane would be impossible. However, we can look to our happy memories to help us deal with our grief.

The family was offered by Premier Dan Andrews a state monument in memory of Shane, which they gratefully accepted.

Martin Pakula, the Premier and Minister of Sport and Major Events have advised that the Great Southern Stand at Melbourne Cricket Ground would be renamed to the S.K Warne Stand. This honour is a tribute to both the MCG trust and the state government.

We want to also acknowledge Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s kind words on behalf of Australia. Everyone knows Shane was a very proud Australian.

Brigitte, my wife and I are very grateful for the support we have received and the love messages that were sent over the past days.

Also, we want to thank the members of media for honoring our request to protect our privacy. We will keep doing so.

Jackson Warne

My Dad and brother are my best friends. I love you very much. It is impossible to imagine anything that could ever replace the love you left me. It will never be the same sitting at the poker table or walking on the greens, looking out for the Saints, and enjoying pizza.

All you had in mind for me was to make me happy. I was just meant to be happy. That’s exactly what I will do. Try to be happy. You were the greatest father, mate and friend anyone could have asked for. I will miss you Dad so very much. You are so loved by me Dad. See you soon.

Jason Warne

People have lost someone very special in their lives. It’s heartbreaking to witness the incredible outpouring of emotions and tributes from friends, colleagues, enemies, and media. While it was heartbreaking, the gesture has also been deeply appreciated.

As a kid, I lost my arch-nemesis, the man who put vegemite on my nose and pinned me down while giving me the typewriter. He was my big brother, my best friend. In 1982 I was on the MCG train, and sat in the Great Southern Stand front row. We had our fingers crossed that Allan Border or Jeff Thomson would score the runs necessary to defeat England.

One would never have imagined that he would be able to make such a significant impact on the ground during the coming years. The very spot was even renamed in his honor. Amazing life. Incredible guy.

There will always be a huge hole in your life. It will always be a huge hole in my life. I love you, and will miss you dearly.

Summer Warne

You are my dad, and I love you. It would have been so much easier to hug you in my last moments of time with you.

Your final breaths were just moments away. It would have been so easy to tell you everything was fine and hold your hand. You’re the most wonderful Dad anyone could have.

It was the end of our time. More holidays, laughter, and a smile that lights up the room are what I would like to have. I also want you to hug me more and let me know you care about me.

Father, you haven’t gone, but you moved on to something better. We will always remember your love. You will always be my Dad, and I’ll never stop loving you until we meet again.

Brooke Warne

This doesn’t feel right Dad. It doesn’t seem real. It does not feel right. Your death was too quick and your life is cruel.

Our final moments together, laughing and having fun with one another will be treasured forever. We were happy.

You and I were so alike in many ways that we used to laugh at each other.

Now I am happier than ever and more proud to have you in my life. Your Dad is my father forever. You are my Dad to the end and will always be in my heart.
