‘I got a bamboo dining table for £45 and four chairs to match off of Marketplace for £160.

‘I found a tulip lamp from an independent shop on Instagram for £200, which was probably the most expensive part of the renovation, but it’s beautiful and really lights up the place.

‘One of my favourite pieces is the orange space age shelving unit I have underneath my television to store records and trinkets, that was £115.

18-year-old student reveals that she only wore 1960s clothes since discovering The Beatles in high school.

One university student revealed that she had only worn 1960s clothes since discovering The Beatles in high school.

Connie McLean (18) from Surrey has transformed her student apartment into a sixties-themed’shagpad’ with lava lamps and floor-length patterns tapestries.

Connie, an Instagram star with 46k followers for her fun and groovy looks, explained that she still wears full-psychedelic Sixties clothing to run errands in supermarkets. She wouldn’t wear the trendy athleisure that many teens are wearing today.

Although she admits that people may think her a little weird for not liking modern fashion, the fashion student now lives in London and says that her love for fashion has enabled her to enjoy the present.

Connie McLean, 18, from Surrey, has revealed how she has only dressed in 1960s clothing since she discovered The Beatles when she was at high school

Connie McLean (age 18, Surrey) has admitted that she’s only worn 1960s clothing ever since her discovery of The Beatles at High School.

Connie was 15 years old when the 60s captivated her. She fell in love instantly with The Beatles’ music and began dressing up sixties-style after she heard it.

“I was in secondary school when a friend asked me to sing a Beatles song for school.

‘Obviously I’d heard of The Beatles. However, I felt I needed to get to know the music of The Beatles if I were going to be performing one of their tracks.

“While my Guitar Gently Weeps” by George Harrison was one of the very first songs that I remember hearing. The Beatles were my first love from the moment I began to listen.

“Their music is so unique to any other that I have listened too.” You could not find modern music like it.

“For the whole of a year, I only listened To The Beatles. Then, I discovered that other sixties bands were available and began listening to them. I was attracted to The Beatles, but not without reason.

Connie - who has built up a following of 46k on Instagram for her groovy look - explained she even wears full psychedelic sixties attire to do a supermarket run and wouldn't be seen dead in the athleisure that most teens wear today

Connie, an Instagram star with 46k followers for her funky look, explained that she still wears full-psychedelic Sixties clothing to run errands and isn’t comfortable in the athleisure most teenagers wear.

“I began dressing up in 1960s clothes and altered pieces to make them vintage. Miniskirts, turtlenecks, and sixties-themed make up were my go to for school.

“Obviously no one in my school was wearing this look. While it was great to be able to enjoy my favorite things, at first it was terrifying for teenagers to attempt a completely different style.

The most casual dress I would wear is a 1960s-inspired hippy style flared trouser with an unusual pattern, and possibly a halterneck blouse.

A hoodie with leggings is fine, but it’s not a bad look. However, I like how you can look polished in casual 1960s clothing. This works well for me.

It’s strange to some. However, it is lovely to have people compliment me on how I look.

She stated, “I dug my grave when I began listening To The Beatles in Secondary School.”

“Once I heard the incredible music from the Sixties, I was compelled to wear modern clothing and have been doing so ever since.

“Even on a late night trip to Tesco I will be sporting a complete sixties look.

First, I love the music. But I also love the eclectic fashion, the décor, the pop culture and the general aesthetic of the decade.

“Of course I am aware that the decade had its bad moments and I do not want to glorify those parts. It was a great time to see how things changed. This was an era of social revolution.

According to the 18-year-old, she is aware of people’s opinions about her taste in fashion. However, she said that it’s ‘lovely’ when people compliment her style on the street.

“The sixties were a great time in my life. Teenagers are just trying to be accepted and end up imitating the behavior of others.

“But I have been able find my own identity, and community. It makes me feel happy.

‘I wish I could tell you that my Instagram account is not as addictive as it was when I was a teenager. This is because I grew up in the 1960s. However, I can say that my sixties taught me how to be present in this moment and disconnect from technology when necessary.

“I enjoy putting incense sticks on my 60s inspired apartment and listening to records or writing letters.

Meanwhile the teenager said the period had taught her to live in the present and plug out of technology 'every so often' (pictured)

The teenager also said that the period had helped her live in the moment and to use technology only ‘every now and again’.

Connie can find a lot her 1960s original clothes on Etsy or Ebay. Connie’s unique style has earned her almost 47,000 Instagram fans. She also collaborates regularly with independent fashion businesses that make pieces inspired by this decade.

The 1960s-inspired items and furniture she collected in the past few years were also used to transform her student apartment.

She explained: ‘I have a twin sister and we got a flat together whilst we’re studying at uni. My sister let me take over the décor of the flat and I went full sixties themed!

“Over the years, my collection of vintage objects from car boot sales has helped me get that 60s look.

I love the hectic sixties look when interior design is busy.

“So I filled my flat with orange tapestries. lava lamps. namaste candles. A rotary phone. And of course, a record-player.

“As much as I love dressing in that style, there are a few friends with a similar taste. We attend 1960s themed clubs and we dance until the early hours.

“Some ask me if I will ever grow tired of listening to The Beatles or the 60s, but I do not see it happening. It’s what I love.
