Beloved friends gather to remember the boy who was killed in jumping castle accident at a packed funeral service. Mum shares her heartbreaking tribute

Zane Mellor’s mother has paid an emotional tribute to her twelve-year-old son.

Zane and five classmates died after they fell 10m from a jumping structure that was blown up by an unexpected gust of wind at end-of-2018 celebrations at Devonport’s Hillcrest Primary School.

To say farewell, the Year 6 student of ‘adventurous’ Mersey Gardens Chapel saw hundreds of family and friends gather at the chapel’s pews today.

The young boy was fondly remembered by mourners as someone who loved animals and games. He was also known online as “Jurassic Zane”.

Georgie, his distraught mother, fought back tears while she read a touching tribute to her son next to his blue coffin. It was decorated with sunflowers and white-painted gaming controllers.

She said, “My baby, where should I begin?”

“It was only 15 years ago when I first had you. Now I understand why. I grew up together, and you were always there for me.

“I treated you like a king – Hawaiian pizzas, McDonalds, and other favourites. While everyone said I should get you off the PlayStation, my friends and family told me that you could play till your hearts contented. Your eyes became tired.

‘I love you Zane. We’re always together, no matter the weather. I love you Zaney.’

We will keep you posted.
