Inquest: Teenager died of chest and stomach injuries following an accident on his electric bike.

It was today that an inquest revealed the tragic death of a teenager riding an electric bicycle in Wales when he crashed into a pole of telegraph wire.

Jamie Michael Jones (17 years old) died when his bicycle hit a pole near Sealand Road’s cycle path. It happened on December 12, 2012.

A brief hearing was held at Ruthin John Gittins. The senior coroner of North Wales East and Central stated that initial reports indicated Jamie had been riding an electric scooter, but in reality it was an electric bicycle.

He died soon after his arrival at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Jamie Michael Jones (17) was struck by a pole on Sealand Road in Garden City on December 12, and died.

A post-mortem examination revealed that Dr Mark Atkinson, a consultant pathologist, had ruled out trauma to the stomach and thorax.

The inquest was rescheduled for a later date. Mr Gittins stated that further investigations into the tragedy were ongoing.

His family paid tribute to him, as reported by The Daily Post: “Jamie was very loved. He will always remain in our hearts. 

“He will be deeply missed by all of us and it leaves a tremendous impact on all of us as a family as well as all those who loved and knew him.

“As a family we ask everyone to protect our privacy at this difficult time.”

Jamie, who lived in Garden City for six years, was the goalkeeper for Saughall Colts Junior football Club.

Paul Hitchcox (chairman of club trustees) said after his passing: “He will be greatly missed by all who recall his smiling face every week at Seahill-playing-fields.”
