Meghan Markle is accused of placing a snub on Prince Harry when they appeared at a Veterans Day gala held in New York.
The Duchess and Duke of Sussex appeared in public for the first time at the Intrepid museum, New York, at the 2021 Salute to Freedom Gala.
Harry and Meghan both wore red poppies. Harry also wore military medals as well the cross of Knight Commander Royal Victorian Order. Meghan was wearing a red gown.
But, keen observers noticed something: as Prince Harry, an army veteran, was about to present Intrepid Valor Medals to Harry, the television prompt listed first the Duchess and then his title.
Viewers questioned the detail, describing it as strange given it was Veterans Day and Prince Harry was there to honor veterans with bravery medals.
Viewers wondered why Meghan, former soldier Prince Harry’s title, was placed before Prince Harry’s. Harry was at the Veterans Day celebration in New York this month to give bravery medals and other awards to veterans.
Prince Harry presented the awards and spoke out about his service in Afghanistan which included two tours. He also talked about how that had helped shape him into the man he is today.
He said: ‘I served 10 years in the military, including two tours of duty in Afghanistan — one as an FAC (Forward Air Controller) on the ground and in the dust with some of you, another as an Apache helicopter pilot in the air supporting and talking with you.
The time spent in shell scrape with my troops, eating a MRE (Meal-Ready-To-Eat) from the tank’s back, thanking for the swaps. Flying a mission overhead was safer knowing that those below was better. We also had the opportunity to laugh at each other when we needed it most.
‘My experience in the military made me who I am today, and I will always be grateful for the people who I got to serve with — wherever in the world we were.’
Lillian Glass, a body language expert and researcher who analysed footage from the New York event, told The Express that Meghan was “guiding” Prince Harry along the red carpet.
Dr Glass added: ‘Meghan is in her element. Because she is, in essence, the leader of both leading Harrys, she is completely in control.

The Sussexes’ three-day New York excursion included a stay at a luxury apartment on Manhattan’s East Side, two online summits, a red carpet gala on Wednesday honouring veterans at a museum aboard aircraft carrier USS Intrepid moored in Manhattan, and a luncheon at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey on Thursday.
Photographers and reporters were prohibited from attending the events. Information was carefully shared by the public relations team over the next few days.
This surprise interview was given by Meghan to Ellen DeGeneres, a TV host who is also a friend.

DeGeneres spoke to Meghan extensively about the domestic world she shares with Harry and Archie as well as Lilibet, her five-month old daughter. Meghan also reiterated her support for paid family time in America.

Thomas Markle, the father of her daughter, called the stunt ‘ridiculous’.

“She was a total fool and she should be stripped of her title.” She was a ridiculous performer, even though I loved her.
