The three men who attacked and tortured a murdered psychiatrist were looking for gay sexual activity in Cardiff Castle’s park, said that the trio.

Gary Jenkins (father-of-two), 54, sustained horrific injuries after he was attacked under the castle’s shadow.

According to the jury, he was going to the park in an effort to explore his bisexuality after his divorce. He was attacked by three young women, one girl in his 16th year, who aimed to take his bag. 

DafyddEnoch the prosecutor stated that they were hurting Dr Jenkins as he laid on the floor for about 15 minutes. It was pure torture.

When the alarm went off, police arrived on the scene and discovered Dr Jenkins lying unconscious in his pants.

He added that Enoch had been in a humiliating position.

Although doctors tried to save Jenkins, he was pronounced dead from an “unsurvivable” brain injury just 16 days after his death. 

The court heard a witness described the teenage girl attacker as ‘f***ing evil. Sadistic.’

Louis Williams was a passerby and had just arrived in the park to see Dr Jenkins getting kicked. He tried to assist Dr Jenkins, but was attacked as well. Williams described how the attackers “egged each other on” while laughing throughout the attack.

According to him, he did not know what was wrong with his body.

According to Mr Williams, the court was told that Williams claimed Williams was confident and she believed everything she did was funny.

Police interviewed him and he stated that she was clearly not a victim. She’s f***ing evil. Sadistic.’

According to the prosecution, Dr Jenkins’s actions were ‘his undoing’ because he was “particularly vulnerable”.

He stated that he was honest about his bisexuality and that his coworkers were aware. Dr. Jenkins used the custom of going to Bute park at night in search of sexual contact with similar-minded men. He also drank heavily.

Jason Edwards (25), Lee William Strickland (36) and the girl (17) who are both accused of murder.

However, they pleaded guilty for manslaughter, theft and assault occasioning bodily harm. 

A court was told that Mr Williams witnessed the three “shouting at Dr Jenkins, kicking him” as they pulled on his bag.

Mister Enoch stated that Dr Jenkins had been being hurt for about 15 minutes, as he laid on the ground. It was absolute torture.

Victim Mr Williams also suffered an assault and said that the attackers ‘egging one another on’, while they laughed during the attack.

According to him, ‘I don’t know why they were torturing me so much.

According to Mr Williams, the court was told that Williams claimed Williams was confident and she believed everything she did was funny.

According to him, he said that ‘She was clearly not a victim. She’s f***ing evil. Sadistic.’

Mister Enoch stated that he did not believe that the 16-year old was a wilting bloom caught up in some unrelated matter.

“The truth was miles away from this scenario.”

After another man shouted that he was ‘angrier, and angrier’ at 1am in the park, officers were dispatched to respond.

Three defendants had approached the man near the Summerhouse café in the park.

He noticed the teenager girl seemed ‘completely sober’, while the men looked ‘under the influence’ of drugs or drink. 

According to Mr Enoch, the Prosecutor: “We love to think that as humans we protect one another.

“Sadly, this man encountered the worst characteristics of humankind. Despite the best efforts of at least one individual, he could not get protection.

The jury was told by Mr Enoch that Dr Gary Jenkins was an experienced psychiatrist who lived and worked in Cardiff.

He stated that he saw the defendants as viciously beating, robbers, torturing and leaving him for dead in Bute Park in Cardiff on July 20, last year.

“It was an apparent beating motivated by greed, homophobia, and a simple liking for violence.”

Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court heard from Dr Jenkins that he was brought to the University Hospital of Wales after an eyewitness tried to stop it.

Although doctors tried to save Jenkins, he was pronounced dead from an “unsurvivable” brain injury just 16 days after his death.

According to the court, Dr Jenkins met his wife in London at a med school before they had their two daughters.

After the breakup of his marriage, he returned to Cardiff and explored his bisexuality.

He stated that he was easy to spot as he walked through Bute park. He was engaging in a risky activity by its very nature.

According to the court, Dr Jenkins left at 5 p.m. and went for dinner with his wife.

Later, he was spotted buying alcohol and cigarettes at the Esso garage. He last appeared to be near the park at 9pm.

According to the court, the attackers were positioned in the park “to attack someone for robbery or violence.”

Dr Jenkins was carrying a bag and was subject to brutal robbery.
