Ana was able to see the flames from Ana’s right side as a result of Ana decorating her cake with hundreds of candles.

Ana did not sustain permanent damage, however her eyebrows, hair and eyelashes were burnt and her face was red.

She said: ‘I saw my whole life flash in front of my eyes. It was surreal and occurred so fast.

“I was afraid I would catch fire and burn my entire hair, causing severe burns.

“My first reaction was to throw it out, but my main concern was making sure nobody else sets themselves ablaze. That’s why I kept the cake.

“It felt almost like I was in another world and didn’t know what it was.”  My family saved me from further destruction.

After the horrible incident, Ana stated that she would never again put more than 2 candles on her cake.

She stated, “There were fifteen children sitting in front of us, it would have lit our house on fire, or any of my nieces, nephews, or my children.”

It could have been very serious. There were many things that could have happened. It was possible for me to end up in hospital.

Ana claimed she does not normally use many candles, however she could not locate the usual numbered decorations that she usually uses.

She stated that she had felt a negative feeling since the start. The candles were placed on the cake by my daughter before the party began. I didn’t like it at all, but that was okay.

“They were singing Happy Birthday to my niece and I could feel her blowing on my candles. I reached over to her and she helped me. That’s when my hair caught fire and exploded.

“I was so overwhelmed that I froze, and for that, I am grateful. Everyone started screaming after I heard the word “oh my goodness”.

“My brother, sister, and husband ran up to me to put out the fire and began to smack my face and hair with their hands. It was fortunate that we did not have any water around.

It did damage my right eye, which is why my vision is very blurry. The pain is still there, and it feels burning when I turn my head.

Ana claimed that her hair was clean and she had no product.

Also, her eyebrows were’seared’ and the right eyelash extension was also burned.

Ana's husband Dylan, 35, rushed to help extinguish the flames by patting her head after she caught fire

Dylan, Ana’s 35-year-old husband, ran to extinguish the fires and patted Ana’s head when she caught on fire.

Ana said: ‘Everybody was freaking out and scared because they thought I was completely burned and once they saw that I was ok they started making jokes about it.

“My family are a lot of jokers. When I got out the washroom, they had the Alicia Keys Girl on Fire music playing.

“I felt relieved it was okay and then I started laughing.

“My family still laughs and says, Hunter and Hunter next year need to have a fire-and-ice party.” I continue to say that I will get a Christmas fire extinguisher.

“I won’t probably have candles on mine cake for at most a few more years.”

“Everyone is extremely mindful of candles right now because it’s not something that can happen.”
