Just before 8pm, police and the fire brigade responded to an initial report that Trafalgar Hotel, near central London, was on fire. However, it turned to be a vehicle fire.
A video shared on social media shows a crowd watching the Admiralty Arch fire before it explodes.

As shocked Londoners watched, a van ‘exploded’ after a fire near Trafalgar Square. The fire brigade and police were dispatched to the scene just before 8pm to investigate a report that the Trafalgar Hotel, near central London, was ablaze. But it turned out that it was a vehicle fire.
A separate clip, shot from the top of a London bus tour bus, showed a different angle. An onlooker shouted: “Oh my God!”
MyLondon was told by a witness: “I could smell it really far away.” Like burning metal.
‘I saw it in the restaurant I was at. My friend and me walked along the road to it, right near the roundabout.
“There was one explosion. The van then started to emit sparks.
