33-year-old wife plunges 100ft into a river, while husband takes photos at the edge of a cliff in Belgium.

A woman who was posing for a photo with her husband at the Belgian cliff edge fell 100ft to her death.

Zoe Snoeks (33), was taking photos near Nadrin, Belgium’s Luxembourg provincial, on Tuesday morning, as she was on a tour of the country with husband Joeri Januaryssen.

The keen explorer lived in Limburg with her school sweetheart, whom she married in 2012. He slipped and fell into a river below, when he turned his back.

The Luxembourg Province public prosecutor said that she fell on the cliff edge, and into the Ourthe River.

Firefighters, police, and divers raced to the scene with a Bra-sur-Lienne medical helicopter. The rescue team later found the body of the victim.

Husband Joeri stated that they only left Sunday in their campervan. It was our little pleasure to drive across Europe in our van, and take beautiful photographs, since the pandemic.

Joy and Ivy were always with the couple, as was a drone to take aerial photos of their travels.

They were due to return to Limburg the day Snoeks died. Snoeks had awoken earlier to see a 4,500ft vertical rock wall.

Janssen stated, “We woke up early to photograph the Herou. There is almost always mist. It’s great to take photos. We arrived before 9:00 AM.

He explained that his wife was taking photos at the edge of the cliff and when she saw him, she told him to watch out for the dogs.

“I turned to Zoe and told her to wait. I turned to Zoe and she was gone. She had just vanished. It must have happened in less that five seconds.

‘I didn’t see or hear anything. No rustling or shouting. I looked up to see only dust.

“I called her even though it was impossible to save the situation. The chasm was several tens to metres deep.

“I immediately called the emergency services but had very little network. They couldn’t understand me, even though they knew a little French.

He stated that he went to Le Belvedere Hotel in nearby to seek help. He added: “The rescue team couldn’t find Zoe immediately, they told me in French. 

“Then they informed me that Zoe was deceased, also in French. But I understood immediately what they meant.

He added, “Taking photographs was her passion.” I immediately opened her phone and found that she had taken the photo at the cliff edge. Her last selfie.

‘Zoe is looking straight ahead. You can also see both the mist and river where they found her body.

“Zoe fell at least 30 meters, according to emergency services. This is what I saw with my own eyes. I believe it was closer to 50 meters.

It is not known whether the victim’s murder is being continued by the local authorities.
