A mother who avoided family photos and stopped going out because she was so embarrassed of her appearance is unrecognisable after a £14,000 makeover.
Kirsti Davies (50) from Andover lost her husband of twenty years to cancer last year during lockdown. She was heartbroken not to have photos of the couple smiling that she could show her grandchildren.
Exclusively speaking to FEMAIL the mother of five, who also serves as a ‘Nan to 14 grandchildren, described how snaps would be avoided because she was unsure of herself. This is mainly due to her “awful broken and chipped” teeth.
Over time, her five daughters watched her withdraw from socialising, lose interest in attending family events and become less confident, so they decided to enter her into a national makeover competition led by Dental Concepts, worth over £14,000.
They were delighted when she won. Kirsti is now able to smile again after six weeks of transformation, which involved Botox, veneers and teeth whitening.

Kirsti said that thanks to the £14,000 makeover, she is ‘gaining confidence’ again and feels like she now has a ‘spring back in her step.’ This is Kirsti after her remarkable transformation.

Kirsti said that her confidence started to drop after her first set of bad teeth as a child.
“I believe it’s psychological, but what can I do to change that?” She said. She said, “I hated my smile. I declined photos. And I refused to live the way that I wanted. Because I was a shadow of pain and hiding. It was not my intention for people to see what I’d become.
Mother-of-five recalls one particular hurtful comment made by a child when she called her daughter’s teeth ‘rank’ while picking up her granddaughter from school.
Kirsti explained that she was picking up Larnie, my granddaughter, from preschool, and that she stood waiting outside for her. Kirsti said, “A small child smiled at him.”
“So I just did what was natural and smiled back. However, when I returned with my statement and horrid looks I felt like the ground would swallow me whole.

Kirsti shared how she had ‘declined pictures’ because she did not want others to see the extent of her dental problems. Kirsti’s before-and-after transformation.
According to the mother-of-5, her lack of confidence stemmed mainly from her broken teeth. Pictured right, after her impressive transformation
He said, “Your teeth are rank!” I wasn’t sure what to say. I looked up and closed my eyes. Others were watching.
Kirsti recalled how a child once described her teeth (pictured) as ‘rank’ when she was picking up her granddaughter from school
‘Larnie was happy to have a photograph in my hand when she came out of school. I could not bear to say hello or even smile at her picture.
“I ran as fast as I could, lost for words and full of emotion.
“Once Larnie was home, I sobbed. I was so mad at my German Shepherd dog, he decided to cuddle on my bedroom floor.
Speaking of the child’s hurtful comment, Kirsti added: ‘I don’t think he intended on being so rude and nasty. It’s just that children are not filtered and see things as they do. However, it was painful and it still hurts to this day.

Kirsti was given a makeover that included teeth, skin, aesthetics and nutrition. She also received a brand new wardrobe, shoes, and a professional photographer. After the transformation took six weeks.
Kirsti was not confident in her appearance, including her teeth. This led to her missing family photo opportunities. She now regrets it after her husband died suddenly in lockdown.
“My husband and me were quite private, quiet people,” she said. We didn’t take many pictures together. The reason was my confidence problems and Gareth always worked as hard as he could for me and the girls.
It hurts. It is shocking. It’s amazing how precious photos are now. I treasure the few that I have. Each picture tells a story. I only wish that I could find more. We are sad to say that the photos we took of our daughters and grandchildren were not captured.
Not wanting to watch their mother struggle with her confidence any longer, or avoid future family photo opportunities, her daughters decided to enter her into a £14,000 makeover competition.
Kirsti’s 31-year-old middle daughter Karina explained that her mother has always been conscious of her smile. Her teeth are not what she likes to show.
“Mum” has struggled through five children, the loss of her parents and her marriage to her father.
Kandice (Kirsti’s youngest daughter), added that she wanted to nominate her mother because she always puts everyone first in all aspects of her life. She has seen some tough times. And she is deserving of happiness.
“She’s been wanting her teeth fixed for a while, so I think this would give her the push she needs.”
Luckily, Kirsti’s wishes were to be answered when she won the national make over competition – and when the winners were announced in August she was over the moon.
“I felt like I was going to faint when my daughter told me that she had won the contest. “It was quite shocking,” she stated.
Dental Concepts’ Practice Owner, Dr Manish Chhotnis, created the Makeover Competition.
His words were: “The past year has been very difficult and we want to give back. We wanted to make someone smile.” It should be more than just a smile makeover. I want to give someone a whole lifestyle overhaul.

Kirsti hadn’t been to the dentist in around 15 years prior to this makeover. For the transformation of the teeth, Dr Manish Chitnis and his team utilized the most recent Digital Smile Design computer technology.
Kirsti received around 15 hours treatment over several days. This included a complete mouth rehabilitation that involved both upper and lower dentitions.
He said, “We first administered Kirsti our Porcelain Veneers. Then, we followed it up with dental hygiene treatments such as cosmetic fillings, teeth whitening and tooth whitening.”
Kirsti also visited RKB Medical Aesthetics, where she was examined by Dr Rory Boud.
He explained that Kirsti was first given all-round Botox to relax wrinkles. After this, he gave Kirsti some skin boosters to revitalize her skin. Then, he used some dermal filler for subtle volume to create an updated appearance.
“We wanted to make her look fresh and rejuvenated.
To compliment her new youthful look, Kirsti was also booked in to meet with international celebrity hairstylist & founder of HNB Salon Spa & Marie Claire Jet Style, Stephanie Stevenson.
“To soften the look and enhance her youthfulness, we colored her hair with multi-tonal blends. We created lightness and depth that matched the tones of her eyes. The only drastic reshaping that was required was to create a “French Girl fringe”. Kirsti was a joy to collaborate on her emotional quest to find herself once again.
Kirsti looks happy as she walks out of the big reveal at Dr Manish, her dentist.
A special evening was organized to unveil her before-and after photos. On Thursday evening her daughters paid tribute as she stepped onto the stage and read her original application letter. It tugged at the heartstrings.
Karina shared her thoughts after the event. “We think Mum looks amazing, and you see in her step that she feels more inwardly than outwardly,” Karina commented.
“We are so happy for her. The moment they placed the photo from before on the stage and she walked out, there were gasps all around. There was also a lot of laughter, although they weren’t happy. It’s still unbelievable to us.
‘We would like to thank all the treatment salons and practitioners and organisers involved – they have all played their part in Mum’s amazing makeover, she looks beautiful.’
“Mum has become a different person in 6 weeks. We’ve witnessed her confidence rise.” Thank you for making my mum smile.
Kirsti said that the transformation helped her gain confidence and feels like there is a new spring in her step.
She explained that she used to be outgoing. I used to meet clients and work with them to clean their homes. It was hard to go out, even just for a quick visit. But now I’m happy that I can do it with a smile.
“Times that I have missed, I will never get back. But I can make fun days. I believe I am in better control over my life.
I will enjoy every moment of my life. I am now the world’s oyster.
“My next goal is to return to work. I would like to be able to display my smile again and let people know that I’m not hiding anymore.
