Worried mothers have raised the alarm after a woman has been approaching parents in Cardiff and offering to buy their children for £1. 

Numerous parents report being approached in Cardiff by a woman who sometimes is accompanied by other women.

Each person reports that the woman took an interest in their children and offered to ‘buy’ them for £1.

South Wales Police reported that officers responded to a call from a woman who approached a mother with her child and daughter in Cardiff on Friday. They also know of other similar incidents on social media.

The spokesperson stated that the woman had been identified and officers have taken note of her concern behavior. However, there were no criminal charges.

These men added that they were grateful to have the issue reported. They also assured the public that adequate safeguarding measures had been taken.

Fern Richards is a 23-year-old woman from Cardiff who took her daughter along to the city center on Friday November 19, to do some Christmas shopping.

According to the mother, she was outside nursing her child when a woman pointed out that a woman behind her had seen her baby and told her to take care.

Fern said, “She said that there was an older lady behind me. She is right beside my daughter.”

“She told me to keep a close eye on her, because she had just come over to see me.”

“I nursed my baby girl, and I noticed a man on my right and another one to my left.

She said the woman then took a coin out of her pocket, looking at her daughter, and said: ‘£1 for her – I’ll take her – she’s beautiful.’

Fern claimed that she saw two officers near her and she ran over to inform them.

Catherine Jane Duggan (31 years old) was in the centre of the city on Friday, when another woman approached her to inquire about her baby.

Primark was the reason she left, according to her mother.

Catherine stated, “She came up to ask me if my baby was a newborn. Evidently, my baby is not a newborn.

“She wanted to buy me a baby. She wanted to buy my baby for £1.

“Are you serious?” I replied. And she replied “yes.” The baby kept coming closer and closer.

Catherine stated that she knew she had approached another woman the day before and received many messages from others who shared similar stories.

She added, “Since my posts have been many people have shared the same kind of stories, especially on the weekends,”

On Sunday, Georgia Davies (22 years old) said that a number of women showed interest in her baby at Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland attraction.

The group approached her as she stood near her ride with her partner’s mom.

Georgia stated, “I was holding…” [my baby]And dancing along the ride.

“This group approached us, took interest in our daughter and began to talk with her. But they only spoke to me.

“This woman was left behind.” They spread everywhere.

Georgia admitted that she felt immediately weary because she’d seen on Facebook posts about mothers approaching their children by women.

Georgia said that she was saying that she would like to take a photo with Georgia.

“Then she held her hand.”

Georgia stated that Georgia wanted the woman to hold Georgia, but her family told Georgia she’d rather go to her mom.

The young mother felt shaken when the woman finally stopped and walked away.

South Wales Police responded to questions about the matter by saying: “On Friday 19 November, officers were called to a report that a mother approached a child and a father in Cardiff City Centre.

The woman identified. While we are concerned by her behavior, there have not been any criminal charges.

“The mother confirmed that there were no attempts to hurt or steal her child. Similar incidents have been reported on social media.

“We appreciate the fact that this matter was reported. We want to assure everyone that safeguarding steps are being taken.”

“South Wales Police is continuing to collaborate closely with Cardiff Council as well as the voluntary sector for vulnerable persons support.”
