A woman has revealed how her boyfriend accused her of ‘tricking’ him into eating vegan food and fake meat.
Taking to Reddit page ‘Am I The A**hole’ (AITA) to discuss the issue, the 21-year-old explained that she and her partner John had been together for three-and-a-half months and he had always enjoyed her cooking.
This was before the American couple had a conversation on fake meat. The woman said that her husband had eaten the same stuff each time they had dinner at her home.
John, shocked at the news, accused his girlfriend, John, of trying to entice him to eat the vegan substitute for meat. She also pushed her vegan methods onto him. John is refusing any further contact with her until she apologizes, as he believes he has been ‘betrayed.
However, most commenters supported her and suggested that her boyfriend hadn’t paid attention when she explained she was vegan to him.

The couple had a Christmas celebration together, where they enjoyed a delicious vegan lasagna and then settled down to watch TV’s cookery program.
The woman explained that at this point John commented about how much he hated when dishes pretended to be meat, calling it ‘deceptive’ and ‘gross’.
Confused, because they had just polished off a vegan lasagna filled with plant-based meat, the woman pointed this out and told him he’d eaten it several times.
She wrote in the post: ‘He got really mad.

‘He accused me of tricking him into something he found disgusting and “forcing” my diet on him.’
The woman went on to explain that he was always in the dining area setting up music or setting the tables when she cooks for him.
She went on to say that if John had ever asked what they were eating she would reply with something like, ‘burgers’ and assumed that because she was a vegan he would have known it was plant-based.

The vegan woman received support from commenters who said she isn’t respected by her boyfriend and that he doesn’t pay much attention to her opinions about her life.
She also stated that her boyfriend may have forgotten about her veganism because she told him once, and then she never spoke of it again.
Later, she revealed John was gone home after the row. He texted her to demand an apology and accuse her of lying to him.
She explained that he wrote several paragraphs about the feeling of betrayal he felt. He said that he wanted me to understand how disappointed he was that I would alter his food in this way, and that it would be a grave act of betrayal.
He was being childish and stupid when he got annoyed. He didn’t reply.
‘This is the first major fight we’ve had and I don’t want to end such a great relationship over it,’ she said.
‘I just feel like no matter how much I try to explain my point of view he keeps making me sound like a villain.’
She said that although she initially thought she was crazy, she had decided to stick with her guns.
The post was shared by the woman, who received many responses confirming that she was not in wrong.
One Redditor wrote: ‘The guy complains of her making him eat “something he found disgusting” yet he didn’t’ have any problem putting it away and didn’t even realise that it was vegan.’
‘Yeah he is acting like a baby,’ agreed another person.
A third user chimed in: ‘He might not have done that with malicious intent (just embarrassed stupidity) but this is an abusive strategy: darvo – deny, attack, and reverse victim and offender.’

Others suggested that his boyfriend’s behavior could indicate abuse, since he blamed her.
‘The bigger issue is that he didn’t pay attention to you telling him you are vegan,’ a fellow Redditor added. ‘He is showing signs of not caring about your beliefs and that his needs should come first,’ commented a fourth follower of the post.’
While a fifth person concluded: ‘Not only that, but if he couldn’t even tell the difference, then what’s the real issue here? That she “forced” him to eat food that he enjoyed?.’
