The story of a young, black man accused of murder that he denies is happening is a new Sunday evening drama. It is being called a “magnificent” new show to watch. 

The BBC1 premiere of You Don’t know Me was based on Imran Mahmood’s best-selling book. He drew on his experiences as a criminal lawyer to create the drama.

At its centre is car salesman Hero (Samuel Adewunmi), of south London, who is put on trial for the murder of drug dealer Jamil (Jean Nsengiyumva).

This Sunday evening drama is a touching and heartfelt success. Viewers instantly praise it, praising the show as “magnificent” and urging others who are interested to view the drama in the courtroom.

Although there is overwhelming evidence to his demise, he ignores legal advice and decides to contest his innocence. He tells the court how he got into trouble trying to protect Kyra Wilde (Sophie Wilde), who he loved. 

The TV version is by Tom Edge of The Crown and Vigil fame and was a huge hit.

As Hero begins to tell his story, viewers are taken back to the beginning of his relationship with Kyra, whom he met on a bus and bonded with over her love of books

Hero starts to tell the story of Hero’s relationship with Kyra. He met Kyra in a bus, and they became friends over Kyra’s love of books.

Hero turns to Jamil to get a gun to defend himself after discovering his girlfriend has been coerced into working as a prostitute for a gang

Hero calls Jamil in order to purchase a gun for defense after finding out that his girlfriend had been forced into becoming a prostitute by a gang. 

Every Sunday, the series airs at 9 p.m. and can be viewed in its entirety on iPlayer.  

 Last night’s episode saw Hero, a loving, law-abiding son and brother, being arrested for Jamil’s murder.  

Hero had publicly argued with Jamil and when police received an anonymous tip off pointing the finger at him, they discovered the murder weapon in Hero’s flat, mobile phone data placing him at the scene of the crime, and the victim’s blood underneath his fingernails. 

Despite being advised by his barrister to stay silent, Hero decides to swear his innocence to the court room, insisting: ‘The truth is that I’m innocent. You are. That boy was not my fault. I did not.

Hero starts to tell the story of Hero’s relationship with Kyra. He met Kyra in a bus, and they became close over their shared love of books. 

The episode ends with Hero explaining that he had purchased the gun, but not to kill Jamil and explaining to the jury that he decided to buy the weapon as he had no other option to get Kyra back

Hero ends the episode by explaining that he purchased the gun to not kill Jamil, and telling the jury that he did so because there was no alternative to getting Kyra back.

As their romance develops the pair move in together but soon Kyra goes missing and while Hero desperately searches for her, he discovers she has been coerced into working as a prostitute.

Hero is afraid of Kyra’s gang of pimps and turns to Jamil for a gun in order to protect himself. He also tries to do the university homework for the drug dealers. 

The episode ends with Hero explaining that he had purchased the gun, but not to kill Jamil and explaining to the jury that he decided to buy the weapon as he had no other option to get Kyra back.

“What was I supposed do?”Hero addressed the court. 

“Say No to Gangs, I Agree” Say no to drugs, I’ve been saying no my entire life. Say no to guns, no guns. Do I condone guns? No. 

“Do I condone violence?” No. Am I a criminal? No. Yes, I do sell cars. Do I believe that i’m above the law? No. That’s not the question here, there’s only one question left to say no to, and it’s the one you guys can’t look at. Do you love her?’.
